| I just put a mid length gas system on my bushmaster carbine lower. I am having issues with cycling. I have now turned my ar15 into a bolt action. It is ejecting just fine (about 3 O'clock), but not cycling the new round from the magazine. I have the factory carbine buffer tube and spring still. Is this a possible cause for my problem or do I need to first dig into the gas port alignment and size? It appears that the gas port alignment is fine, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Thanks in advance for any help!! |

The other posts pretty much cover most issues- there is one more though.
Are you using Tula ammo by any chance? (And lube)? Tula is notorious for making otherwise reliable rifles into unreliable rifles. If not Tula ammo, follow the other posts advice. Gas key & gas block. Pat Rogers used to post here and mention reliability depends on "MEAL" M = Magazines E = Extraction A =Ammunition L = Lubrication Any one of these will cause a rifles reliability to suffer. |

I just looked back at Pat Rogers posts here and he also mentioned to check the gas rings on the bolt when noticing gas problems.
If you have never read the thread on what parts break during carbine courses, it is well worth the time. Here is a link, just in case you get time: What parts break in a carbine class Don't despair, she'll run like a clock before long |

did you change the whole upper or just mod one where did you get the upper ?we need more info . My thoughts exactly, we need a lot more information before we can even begin to help, right now it is guesses. This reminds me of the poster who put a midlength gas tube on his carbine barrel and couldn't figure out why it didn't work after he moved the gasblock forward. |

It's maybe because he's using tula ammo, since he wont say one way or the other. Quoted:

I think you meant to say a carbine tube on a mid-length barrel... That would allow the weapon to fire but not cycle correctly. |

Thanks in advance for any help!! If you are using all the correct parts, number 1 suspect is verify gas block/gas port alignment. Gotta measure and do some math..... Report. |

Shit. I never conceived of it. When I posted, I just assumed he swapped the entire upper, and perhaps swapped the original BCG to the new upper |

^^^mid tube and block moved 2" forward, leaving exposed carbine gas port exposed to cycle nothing more than mother nature^^^ im pretty sure that's what sticks getting at. not sure how one could overlook that but it does happen and ive seen it done myself. Exactly, people read on this site how easy it is to do everything on the weapons, but sometimes lack the knowledge base or don't understand what all is involved. |
