I am a newbie..................
Is a Spikes Tactical complete rifle really worth the 8 to 12 month wait? |
|
They're good, but I wouldn't say any better than the array of other manufacturers. If you can find another similar rifle at a similar price, I see no reason to wait specifically for the Spikes. Also, most likely distributors will have them in stock and for sale before Spikes, since they will supply their distributors before direct sales. Most websites allow for a notification when an item is back in stock.
Other great manufacturers include S&W, RRA, Colt, Stag, Troy, Bravo Co, Bushamster, Sig Sauer, Danial Defense, and some others. |

Quoted: +1. I've had Colt, Daniel Defense, and Spike's complete rifles. They're all the same to me so I would just get what I can. | I've built 2 complete Spikes rifles (one LW Middy and a M4) in less than a month in Feb during the mad dash. If your willing to put in the work then you can buy all components and have a complete rifle in that short a time. Start here http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_3/4_.html |
| Spike's makes some great stuff. But I in no way would wait 12 months for one directly ordered thru them. Do as others suggested, go to Aimsurplus, and be ready to buy once they come available. Colt and Bravo Company products are great as well. I've owned all 3 brands. Get whatever is in stock. |

| Here's you a Colt LE6920 In Stock........http://clydearmory.com/firearms/rifles/colt.html I don't really do brands but I like Spikes and it's as good as any other out there so I built/assembled two complete rifles but my next two will be PSA. |

Go with a BCM upper (just as good, arguably better) and throw it on a complete lower, and you can have it done TODAY.
I can suggest nothing more than at least 'semi' assembling your rifle yourself. What better way to learn about a weapon than to assemble it yourself? I as a matter of fact think its outrageous to pay for a fully assembled rifle unless its a steal of a deal. |
| I am 100% happy with my Spike's AR (my main rifle). However, I don't think it is any "better" than my PSA, or any number of other rifles (Colt, BCM, DD, LMT) that I have shot. I definitely wouldn't wait 12 months for my first rifle. Make sure you select something that is available now and made of similar quality material, to spec, and you will be fine and have absolutely no buyer's regret. I would have to agree with the "build your own" comments as well, just look out for shipping costs. They add up quickly. |
| There's a dealer in Farmer's Branch, TX (Dallas area) that had some Spike's in stock. I just purchased one myself. Think it was called JP Ten Sports. He still shows he has the lowers in stock on TGT. Here's one of his posts from TGT http://texasguntrader.com/index.php?a=2&b=345553 |

Spikes are some of the best looking AR's out there in my Opinion. The complete upper and lower are both Spikes, including the handguard.. Hand guards are Seekins. Looks just like any other AR too me. Spikes suffers from extreme diarrhea of the logo. Except that one has the dueling dongs smashing the spider logo.. |

Many think Spike's is worth the wait. So do, thousands of others. It is either a myth, or there is a damn good reason why the backlog.
As sharp as these AR people are, if Spike's wasn't worth the wait they all would have bought something else, and there would be no backlog and no wait. To me the rifle is as good as the individual components that go into making it. It appears many in here and elsewhere think Spike's Tactical components are good enough ( possibly better) that is why everytime you see a Lower Parts Kit, Bolt Carrier Group, and other parts Spike's branded ones are the first to sell for a premium here on EE and on EBay and also on Gun Broker. These people can not all be wrong can they? Their customer service and warranty is second to none. I am no so sure you can dismiss Spike's as "not worth the wait" just like that. I think AR-15 Book had Spike's as THE WINER in the last issue. This is not to say there are no others as good and even better. There are. Your question wasn't "Is Spike's The Best?" If it was, it probably be answered as No it isn't! Your question was "Is it worth the wait?" The answer is, Yes. It is that good in that price range. This is MY opinion and only as good or as bad as the others in here. |

I ordered my first ar through them last February, a complete midlength. It was at my FFl just shy of 15 weeks, which has increased exponentially since then. I had about had it by the time I got it. I would say worth it if its some sort of custom build, not for just a basic version. As for the gun itself, its quality. Some of their lower parts are kinda meh though, and my upper had a nick in the anodizing. Didnt really give a shit about that and was not about to wait a few more months to fix a scratch |
