Are we talking BCGs? I've been thinking about sending out a BCG to CCR refinishing or Robar.... Do these coatings work?

This has been done to death about a thousand times on here

Try googling using "site:ar15.com nib coating" or the like, easier than the site search

In short yes they work, you have to decide if the extra cost is worth it to you.

This topic tends to reply some passionate debate.  I'm a huge fan of it.  I have one and it runs 100% with no lube.  I've tried putting lube on it and it just runs off it's so slick.  Never an issue.  Is it needed?  Nope.  Does it function better or any more reliable than a properly lubed BCG?  Nope.  You just have to decide if the benefits of needing little to no lube and easier cleaning is worth the cost to you.  WMD will coat you BCG is NiB for $100.

Love my two fail zeron bcgs.  No lube needed and really easy to clean.

If used the NiB uppers/lowers/triggers/bcgs... What do you want to know?

I find my Fail Zero really runs smoother all around. Also, the included coated hammer looks no different geometrically than a stock milspec hammer, but for some reason took all the "grind" out of the take up on my DD milspec trigger. Couldn't tell you why, it just does.

YMMV

I use a NiB coated BCG for my 5.45 rifle but still lube it everytime I shoot.

Wmdguns does all sorts of custom coating options. They can even Cerakote over the top so you aren't stuck with a silver exterior finish. Right now, I have about 60 parts there doing up some specialty rifles. Here is a break down of what I'm doing:

AR15: Noveske NSR on a VLTOR upper. AR15.com billet lower. PWS 416 receiver extension. Noveske 16" stainless NST barrel. Geisselle SD3G Trigger. JP Silent Buffer.
The upper, lower, bolt carrier group and receiver extension are being coated in Nickel Boron. Then a topcoat of Burnt Bronze Cerakote is being applied to the exterior of the receivers, receiver extension, NSR rail. The barrel and gas tube is being treated with nitromet to blacken the finish. All the plastics and buttons will remain black. The body of its Surefire X300 Ultra will be Burnt bronze as well. I'm still waiting for its Aimpoint T1 to be delivered.
Even the NSR barrel extension is being coated in nickel Boron for corrosion resistance.

AR15: LMT MRP piston operated upper receiver. SMOS billet lower receiver. PWS 416 receiver extension. Geisselle SSA trigger. JP Silent Buffer.
Both the upper, lower and receiver extension are being coated in nickel boron. A top coat of Burnt bronze Cerakote is being applied to the exterior. The piston will be coated in nickel boron along with the bolt carrier group.

9mm AR15: DDLES Glock lower, VLTOR upper, modified 7" Noveske NSR rail, Geisselle SD3G Trigger, PWS pistol receiver extension, heavy buffer's 11.5 ounce buffer, Surefire X300 Ultra on a Mossie Tactics mount, Aimpoint T1 optic.
The upper, lower, bolt carrier, NSR barrel nut and the buffer are being coated in nickel boron. A top coat of Burnt Bronze Cerakote is then being applied to the exterior. The NSR rail is being painted Burnt Bronze. The 7.75" barrel is being treated with nitromet. The Aimpoint T1 and Surefire X300 Ultra's body is being painted in Burnt Bronze Cerakote.

Glock 36: The slide and frame rail are being coated in Nickel Boron. A top coat of Burnt Bronze Cerakote is then being applied to the exterior of the slide and on the aluminum slide backplate.

concept picture

Benelli M4: I stripped this weapon completely down myself. The receiver, bolt carrier, trigger group housing, receiver extension, pistons and various small parts within the trigger group are being coated in Nickel Boron. A topcoat of black Cerakote is being applied to the visible portion of the bolt face. A topcoat of burnt bronze Cerakote is being applied to the barrel, receiver, receiver extension, alumiunum portion of the collapsible stock, titanium magazine tube, Aimpoint T1's body and the body of its Surefire m600c.

I'm hoping to have the parts back by mid April so I can finalize assembly. Pricing is expensive. Figure 100 for plastic pistols and 400 - 500 for rifles/shotguns. Not all work is being performed by WMD Guns. I'm using another coater for optics and lights. Controlledchaosarms.
