Hello,
I have a Spike's Dissipator upper. The gas tube comes factory at mid length but the front sight blade is at the rifle length position. Question: If I remove the front sight blade and install a mid length hand guard, can I move the front sight back to the mid length position or does it have to go back to the rifle length position? If the front sight is moved back, will there be any holes or marks at the rifle length position? Will they effect performance? Any knowledge is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

if your barrel is a midlength barrel and has a lopro gas block at the midlength position you can install a free float rail. If your wanting to put a drop in type handguard like an moe. You would need to replace the gas block for a standard fsb setup with retaining cap to install a drop in hand guard. Unless i'm reading it wrong and you have a carbine length gas and a fsb at the riflength position. if you have the parts and are technically inclined to do the change go for it. If not and you don't have the tools you may be better off getting a midlength barrel.
one note the pin holes where the fsb is mounted will be exposed once you move the fsb back. Also you have to make sure that the fsb is the same I.D. as the gas block area. I'm also not familiar if the FSB is drilled for a gas tube. If cost is an issue i would get a midlength barrel like the others recommended would look cleaner in the end and what you sold the dissy barrel for should recoup what you spend on the midlength. |
