I just had two (same model) spikes uppers come in yesterday and being mildly OCD I am checking them over deciding which I want to keep. The rifle will be run hard and may see a rdias in the future.
One had a slightly better fit and finish, fits nicely to the lower and the pinned brake is pretty square on. The 1 issue I found is the M4 feed ramp transition isn't perfectly smooth, there is a very slight ridge that if I force a billet tip into while slowly releasing the bolt, the tip catches- http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8522/8465845998_5f68d87dc0_b.jpg image by ninjasphotos, on Flickr The other has good M4 ramps but there were some burs in the receiver I had to knock down (you can see some around where the barrel is), the brake is pinned very slightly crooked (over rotated), and the fitment with the Lowe is a little looser. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8101/8465845930_dc9050f837_b.jpg image by ninjasphotos, on Flickr So which would you all go with? Is the slight lip in the feed ramps acceptable on the first upper? |

Drop in A sear in NY???????? Is that even legal or are you a broomstick cowboy? Notice the part above where I said I am moving. Rdias would be my home warming gift to myself after the move. Must be nice to have an extra 10 grand laying around People buy 4 wheelers and other toys that cost 10k, I don't think it's THAT much money if that's what I really want. |

The flaws you seem to be concerned about really look like a non-issue to me. Honestly, I would shoot both. See which one is the better shooter, and sell the other one if you so desire. I wouldn't mind the feed ramps as long as they won't cause any actually Issues. I just don't know if its considered "normal" to have a slight edge there. I imagine there's some acceptable variation. |

FYI the bullets come into contact with the tops of those ramps, above the "ridge", during normal operation. The m16 and variants never had them (the lower ramps cut into the receiver. Just the m4. They were a crude fix for worn out magazines that the follower couldn't keep up with full auto fire, and the rounds were starting out of the mag lower.
Even with a rdias, just keep your mags all sexy and you'll be fine. |

Awesome, glad to hear its normal. I decided to keep #1. Overall everything is slightly better and the I think the feed ramps which are the only slight issue will really be a non issue, I just wasn't sure. I'll be selling the other as I would rather have the $ and I'm out of room in my safe anyway lol.
Thank you guys! |

Keeping both was the original plan but since NY went full retard I decided to move and just want 1, I'll sell the other to help fund moving. I'd keep the second one then because the feed ramps and barrel extension look to be matched perfectly. However, I would not have 1% problem owning the first one either. Good for you on moving from that shitstain called New York. Fuck them, don't spend another dime in that state and don't allow them to receive another penny in state income tax either... I won't purchase products that are manufactured there now. Hopefully your moving out west or down south where the chance of your governor growing an extra chromosome is much more remote... |

While the ramps aren't perfect your statement is correct. |
