I just installed a new Daniel Defense CHF Barrel. It has a Gas Block that was pinned at the factory. To finish up installation, I hammered the pin into the gas block, but found the pin still stuck out a ways, and was not close to being flush with the other side. Is this typically how the pins fit on DD gas blocks, or do I need to keep hammering on it? Here is a photo of what it looks like after I have driven the pin in.

Have you tried inserting the pin from the other side? Some manufacturers use a tapered pin.

DD uses taper pins.

The pin is tapered and I pushing the skinnier end of the pin into the larger of the two holes on the gas block. In fact it the skinny end of the pin will not go into the smaller hole on the gas block. So I'm pretty sure I'm putting it in the right way.

If it bothers you cosmetically, the fix is to use the correct taper reamer to ream it just a little deeper until the pin seats where you want it. We can't see from your picture, but if the pin is engaging the gas block on both ends then I'd say it's fine where it is and not worth messing with.

Put a drop of penetrating oil on the pin, then hit it with a bigger hammer.  Be sure to support the barrel.

Just received a 300 Blackout DD barrel with a factory pinned gas block from somebody today.  Looks the same as yours.  Pin sticks out only on one side.  The other end of the pin is cut short and looks honestly kinda ugly.  No doubt it is functional, but I will be using a slightly longer 2/0 taper pin.

Correct answer.

Leave it alone. It's normal for DD.
