I have a Spikes Tactical ST-15.
I replaced the sling attachment on the buttstock tube (don't hate me if I haven't got my nomenclature down yet) I followed steps I found on youtube and everything was pretty straight forward. But there is a plastic insert inside the spring that goes inside the tube, its pushed in and stops at the retainer pin that goes vertical down into the lower. I understand that the bold comes back and pushes that spring into the buttstock tube, so I screwed back in the tube to where the hole is for the retainer pin, put in the spring, and the pin, pushed down the pin then turned the tube one more turn till the notch lined up, the pin is then down with the little nipple sticking out to hold the buttstock spring and plastic torpedo back into the buttstock tube. so the buttstock tube is secured, adn the retainer pin is securely down in its little whole. But I noticed that the plastic torpedo looking piece of plastic has two flat notches, the other day I was "playing" with my gun, lol and i noticed that the retainer pin was popped out, and pushed forward, the spring was not bent or damaged, I managed to get the stock off, and the pin out, and I put it all back together. But I noticed when you turn the plastic torpedo to where the flat notches are on the outer edge, it appears that there is a possibility for the retainer pin to pop back out again if the plastic torpedo were to rotate during the bolt goin gback and forth. If you understand what I mean and have ran into this, or know of a solution, or can make me rest easy with a trick, its greatly appreciated. Question 2 is about snap caps. I have not fired my AR yet, but I do have a couple snap caps, but when I set one into the chamber, and pull the charge handle, the snap cap gets stuck in the barrel, and the charge handle will not pull back. I literally have to takedown the entire rifle and pull the snap cap from the barrel with tools. (very carefully). And yes I've verified that I'm using a .223 snap cap in a .223 rifle. Any help is appreciated. |
| Twist the buffer tube in farther. The buffer tube is what holds it in place. The tube should go right up to the pin and the flat ridge under the pin needs to be under the buffer tube. Just had a friend who had the same problem when he replaced his stock and buffer tube. It's a bitch to get the gun apart when all those parts pop out and jam the bolt back. |

It will probably be good for you to review the tacked threads in the "build it yourself" section. This will help you understand the correct assembly of the lower.
You are doing everything correctly. Just not far enough on the buffer tube. Go another turn or so as the previous post mentioned. The tube should be right up to the center of the pin, but not binding it from being pushed down. As far as the snap cap, have you cleaned out the barrel? Use some solvent or mineral spirits on a patch to remove any oil. Tis may be making it sticky. Second thing to try is to actually sand ( or file) down the cylinder of the snap caps. The plastic may be just a bit to large. You probably don't need to take much off. |

Does this look about right? This is the way it looked when I first took it apart, and I swear thats how I put it back together. |

Ya, the plastic on the snap cap looks like its warped and fat.
I'm assuming that if I had a live round in the chamber than when I pull the charge handle it would eject it just like a semi auto handgun would? I haven't fired this ar yet, too dang cold outside. lol |
