This question makes me feel stupid, but I want to feel smart again, so here goes :)

Bought Colt LE 6920 about a month ago new.  Is there anything chrome lined on this thing?  I was told it came that way, but I'm not seeing the shiny chrome finish I've seen on some ARs...

So just want to understand more about my weapon.  Thanks for your time...

Thanks for the reply.  Can you help me understand why some chrome lined barrels and other parts look shiny like SS but the colt parts are normal looking?

Thanks

It’s in there ....  to see the shiny, you need to shoot the CRAP out of it(pun intended)

It's only chromed internally. If you pull the bolt carrier out and look ino the barrel extension you'll see some chrome around the mouth of the chamber. This is the same for any chrome lined barrel. It is not "shiny" and can only be seen by disassembling. You maybe are seeing stainless steel barrels, which are solve on the outside, and confusing those with chrome lined barrels?

Barrel and chamber chrome lining is not shiny.  Never has been. You must have been looking at someone's bling, bling, and thought it was referring to chrome lining.  The chrome lining indicator you are looking for is a fairly light grey ring around the chamber opening.  If your barrel/chamber were not chrome lined, it would about as black as the black finish on the outside of the barrel.

Ok fair enough.  I did insert a small flexible led light and was able to see the chrome stand out.  I guess the bling bling I saw on my friends ruger AR was a chrome bolt assembly like this:

I suppose there is a difference between being made out of chrome and being chrome lined in the way it looks.  I was just curious though.  I'm sure the colt is a nice gun and I'm not going to wear it out either way...

Thanks

Those "shiny" barrels that look SS, are stainless.

Your gun is chrome lined inside where it matters

Things aren't "made out of chrome." All bolt carriers are made of steel. That bolt carrier in the pic is chrome plated (or possible nickel boron coated). The Colt bolt carrier is chrome line in the part where the bolt inserts into, the rest of the carrier (everything that's black) is finished with manganese phosphate.
