After joining the site a few years ago, I finally managed to finish my first rifle.  It's been a slow crawl acquiring parts since the beginning, but I finally finished!

Parts List:

Mega Gator Stripped Lower / Stag LPK
Mega Upper Receiver
Daniel Defense 14.5" M4 CHF Chrome-Lined 1:7 5.56 Barrel w/ FSP and pinned Smith Vortex
BCM FA Bolt Carrier Group
Mega Billet Charging Handle
Magpul CTR / MIAD
Daniel Defense RIS II M4A1 FSP
MI SPLP BUIS

I handled everything myself, sans the barrel pinning which I had done at local shop recommended by the HTF (Accurate Ordinance in Winder, GA).

I managed to get to my local range last night (~75' indoor range) for an initial function test.  I stuck to 10 shot standing groups of XM193 just to get a feel for the rifle.

I know that I need to work on my point of aim as I tend to ride the FSP up the target before firing, but I am going to wait until I can get to a longer range with an accurate distance to target figure before I start fretting too hard over the elevation.  I did receive some much welcomed advice from a retired Marine regarding my cheek weld and head position which helped my tighten up my groups immensely; I started shooting more consistently when I went nose to charging handle.

Overall, I'm very happy with the build.  I'd never intended on installing a 12" rail, and had I managed to snag a 16" barrel I likely wouldn't have.  However, as I needed to have the Vortex pinned, I wanted to go ahead and install a rail since I wouldn't be able to remove the FSP after the pinning.  I really liked the DD Lite bolt up system, and the RIS II provided access to the barrel via the M203 hanger on the under side of the rail which was a selling point for me.  In the short term, I'd like to get a sling.  Otherwise, I'm good to go and just need to spend some time getting to know the rifle.

I've received a lot of advice/help throughout this process, so I bought a membership today; I appreciate the wealth of information many of you have provided.  Thanks!

...and yes, that is an additional barrel on my work bench.  It's a 16" White Oak 6.8SPC SPEC II barrel that I bought when I started this project a few years ago.  I have an accompanying matched-bolt, so all I need now is another stripped upper.

Looks good. Just needs an usable sling and a good light. Get professional training after that!

Definitely! I'm looking for carbine courses on the HTF, so hopefully I can get signed up for one in the near future.

Try a bcm charging handle. It gets you women, cures baldness, and creates skittles rainbows. And it's also a very well made and comfortable CH

I'm bald.

I like your rifle. I got a couple of lowers headed my way, and building my first AR over the coming months. Good job.
