I'm doing my research and have ran across a few comments indicating that the 6940 may be better for accuracy.
Why? Does the 6940 have a free-float barrel, and if so, how's that different than the 6920 and why is it more accurate? What's the drawback, if any? Thanks! |

No, mine is seriously bad ass.
It has a non traditional barrel nut/mount as well as the free floated barrel and mono upper that all attribute to additional accuracy. If your ammo and you can do it, a 6940 is a more accurate firearm. The drawback of course is non standard AR parts.... |

The Colt 6940 has the "monolithic upper receiver" which the rail is part of the upper receiver. Instead of being mounted to the upper receiver as a free floated rail is. Or being help in place by the delta ring and barrel like a drop-in rail is. You can't take the rail off of a monolithic upper. That's what makes it different then a standard AR upper receiver.

I have both the 6920 and a 6940....
like them both, but Id have to give the nod to the 6940 in terms of accuracy and handling... the only drawbacks as another poster pointed out are the non standard parts, and for me anyway the gas block with the sight mounted on it...id rather they have not added the flip sight and just extended the rails to cover the gas block. still though, an awesome rifle and well worth buying. |

Any other differences would also be appreciated. I have a 6920 but have always wanted the 6940. Am I making a mistake by buying it? both great guns but the 6920 is more versatile since you can put any FF rails system later and get the same accuracy potential of the 6940 |
