I am interested in adding an end cap to my YHM rail.  The picture on YHMs website does not show a situation where the gas block is outside the rail.  Can an end cap be used if the gas block is outside the rail (the more traditional set-up) or is it only used with a low profile gas block and a longer rail that covers the gas block?

Appreciate your help on this one.

like this?

I think I'd use some sort of thread locker so it doesn't loosen up and push/rub on the gas tube

Hello silver78,

I used my YHM lightweight FF rail + endcap combined with standard FSB. If your gasblock leans toward the notch in the barrel like the standard FSB, I presume it's OK. You can also check up their website, which contains good installation manuals for their products. And if in doubt, contact the YHM customer service. They will know I'm sure.

Good point goldeyeslayer. If I remember right, my YHM endcap came with a healthy dose of blue or purple thread locker.

Yes, the cap can be used with the gas block outside the rail.  You just have to pay attention to the orientation of the holes to ensure that the gas tube can pass through one of them.

Nice link - Thanks.  When you just search the YHM site for the caps as an accessory on their website you get this:

http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_4_51&products_id=26

Which does not show the gas block outside the forearm.

pure accident that I found it.  I was looking to see how big the holes were for the gas tube....been too long since I put one together.
