Hi everyone,
I'm building my first AR. My only other center fire auto loader experience comes from my old mini-14 in .223 and my XCR in 5.56/6.8. So far I have a POF Gen 3 415 lower, and a Vltor MUR 1 upper (with bolt assist) assembled together with a magpul grip. I must say the lower to upper fit is dead on, feels like one piece of homogeneous metal, very nice.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for a well made BCG? So far I've been directed to Fail Zero and BCM as top picks. I'm also very much a novice when it comes to determining proper head space measurements, though some manufacturers do claim a true "drop in and shoot" installation.

I've heard nothing but positive words on Noveske barrels, but I'd like to hear more about other options that might be just as well made but more economical.

Also looking at using a Vltor CASV mid-length hand guard, though I'm not certain it will mate up over the MUR-1. I've had a difficult time determining that one and I haven't heard back from Vltor on that question. Seems like they should work well together but you never know.

Anyway, any suggestions or experience to share would be most welcome.

Cheers.

What size barrel? Are you looking for accuracy or just a range toy. I've never owned a noveske but have only heard positive things from their products. If I was to build something I'd buy a 14.5 hammer forged midlenght barrel from DD Or BCM. BCM also does make a killer bcg but there hard to find. Sign up for the email alert and try to be quick to grab one. It seems around 2:45 pacific time is when their in stock.

Thanks for the reply. Honestly it will just end up being a range toy, I just tend to take projects way further than they actually need to be...

The setup I like most would be a 14.5" heavy barrel w/ a pinned 1.5" muzzle device to keep it above NFA.

I'm signed up for the BCM in stock notifications, two days ago I got the message at 3:09pm their BCG was in stock. 30 seconds later when I clicked the link to order it was already gone. Now THAT is an in demand product!
