So I'm new to AR's and have done some research. I ordered a Spikes St-15 16 Mid-Lenght LE as it seems like that is a good rifle in my price range.  They had a 10% off black Friday sale so I pulled the trigger on one. My buddy just picked up a Core 15 MOE M4. I had not included Core in my original round of research because I didnt see much conversation around them. They seem like pretty quality rifles for the price as well. They are on back order like Spikes, but I'm guessing probably not quite as long although I'm willing to wait. Anyways, does anyone have experience with both or at least one of them and can weigh in on this
For me?

I have experience with both.  Spikes is way better, both with quality and Customer Service.  Core 15 isn't bad either, but it doesn't come close to Spikes in quality.

Some members will bash Spikes due to some.... ahhh, controversial comments and marketing judgement a few years back.
This said, I can attest to the excellent quality of their products and customer service. They've been 110% with me in both respects.

Core 15 is relatively new to the scene but many comments and reviews tend to rate them very high. Their BCG's seem to be holding their own in regards to positive reviews also.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I felt good about the Spikes, but I always second guess my purchases. I'm not worried about what they did a couple of years ago as long as they are making a good gun. Looks like I'll be waiting a while, but it should be worth it!

No need to second guess your choice. Great AR and customer service.

Indeed. Spike's does not disappoint.

I agree.  My Spike's SBR runs like a champ.

If I were shopping for just a barrel and BCG, would I buy Spike's or Core? Spike's would be my choice. I don't buy complete rifles, but if I did, the barrel and the BCG would be the determining factor of what I chose and would outweigh all else, as long as everything else was at least of decent quality and functional.

I've never bought a complete Spikes but have bought several uppers and put together Spikes lowers to put on. Great stuff. I did buy one complete Spikes lower. Also quality assembly. Used several of their lowers for other builds. I always ignore the Internet drama and just use stuff that works. If I ruled out every product from places where the owner got on the wrong side of someone here I'd have a pretty small firearm collection. LOL! You will be happy with your purchase. I've never had to use their customer service but from what I've seen it's great.

Haven't tried Core. Sounds like guys are happy though.

Both are fine choices. I've never had problems with my Core15 products.

Spike's makes some reliable rifles and they have excellent customer service. Yes, some people don't like them for things that were said on the drama web but it's hard to deny that they make good stuff. They also come out with some innovative products . Did I mention that they have good customer service? I've seen their CEO Tom (badazzar15) bend over backwards to help customers out. I remember an old thread where he offered to send a rifle to someone he didn't even know to test out. The guy wasn't sure how reliable their ARs were so Tom told him "If you're not satisfied, you can send it back to us with no money down". Who does that?

I'm not familiar with Core15 so I can't comment.

2000+ rounds through my st-15 16" LE carbine length and no issues.  I have the enhanced LPK and the NiB BCG.  The upgrade parts are slick as snot without any , but I keep it lubed nonetheless.  I just picked up a Jolly Roger lower and an enhanced LPK for another rifle.  I probably wont use a spikes upper on this one due to availability ( only reason)

You won't be disappointed with their products.

Core15 is extremely underrated. Everything on their rifles is milspec or better. Their "no BS" warranty is a huge plus as well that Spikes does not match.

I have a Core 15 MOE and it came with a 9:1 barrel instead of the proper 1:7 ordered. They did fix it fairly quickly and paid for the UPS back. I will PM the "bad". The rifle is a quality product.

To me this choice is easy Spikes no question.  I own a custom 18" and a their 16" elite both great rifles and several of their lowers.  Never had a problem that I had to call CS and as advertised.

I've ran over 6000 rounds through one of my Core 15 uppers without an issue. The Black Hole Weaponry 1-8 polygonal-rifled barrels Core 15 uses on many of their uppers are incredibly accurate.

May be what they have used on uppers but not their complete rifles. Probably special order it with them though.

Core-15.  Had my BCG in 2 days. Seems solid and I like the way they do business.

Now I feel very good about my choice with all the love for Spikes. No doubt Core would be a great choice as well, but I have yet to see a negative comment about Spikes in my research. On another note this is my first fire arms based forum to be a member of as I have typically been involved in car forums. I must say I am impressed thus far with the polite responses. If you post questions like this on some car forums you can get some rather unnecessary comments. I think I'll like it here.

Just make sure you clean the protective grease that's on it before you shoot it. As far as the unnecessary comments, don't speak so soon. Also, be careful of what you say in GD.

Welcome aboard, fellow Texan!

If you stick to the technical forums you won't get as many unpolite responses like you do in General Discussions (GD.)

By and large, I think gun owners are more polite than other groups - mainly because most are conservative and not liberal.  My .02 cents anyway.

As for the orginal question, I presently own an LMT upper on a home built lower and will soon (I hope) own a Troy Defense carbine so I can't really comment on Spikes vs Core other than what I've read on the web.

I've experienced awesome Customer Care from Spikes and I'm not even a freakin' customer.
Can't go wrong with Spikes.

Core is new....time will tell.

Haven't dealt with spikes in a while, but never had a bad experience.

Just tried my first order with Core, just a BCG and an upper receiver.  We'll see how it goes.  But for a black friday order it took about 6 days for it to ship out.  Depending on postal time, that might not be that bad of a turn around for a "deal day" order.

I feel just as confident with my 2 Spikes ARs as with my DD, BCM, or LaRue.  I have the 12" BAR rail on both and although it felt a little too big at first, it's starting to grow on me (no pun intended).

What part of TX are you in?
