Thanks practice with irons then I will be using my irons along time intill im comfortable with them. The scope was only purchased because it was a hell of a good deal and if I didnt buy it he would have sold it to someone else so I jumped on it just so I have one. |

I say, if the scope holds a zero and does what you want it to do, use it. Learn how to use irons as well obviously.
If you're shooting at paper ~100 yards away and the scope holds zero fine and doesn't shit out on you, there's not a problem. No point in spending more money on the optic than the rifle IMO. Edit: I have no experience with Barksa optics. Primary arms makes a good budget optic if you ever want to switch it out. |

For a Long-Range rifle, the optic is usually more expensive than the rifle by a factor of 2 to 5. For a .223 or other shorter ranged rifle, I don't see the need to spend more than $1k on any optic. You can get fine 1-4x or 1-5x optics with FFP and Bullet-drop illuminated reticles for this or less. Optics are one area where you get what you pay for... mostly. ![]() |
thanks.. I figured id shouldnt have said anything about the scope I got since I know its not the Magical EOtech or any other 500 dollar plus optic.. Oh well its not that I dont have the money to buy one and I prob will one day but being my first one I have to figure out what scope style I like before I drop the dime on those prices.. Maybe I like a reflex style or an acog or a scope who knows..

| His optic will do fine as long as it holds. Not everyone is an optic junkie. For the range and home, if it holds, it doesnt need to be a $1K. I have an NcStar 3-9 built for a 223. Its cheap but holds well. And I can shoot and thats what matters. Practice over price for now. |

Maybe I like a reflex style or an acog or a scope who knows..Smart man. I have an ACOG on one rifle and two others have variable scopes. I like both, but they are definitely different shooting experiences. If you are going to only have one optic take your time! Go to the store and look through them. Leave, think about them and repeat a few times and imagine using each when you are shooting your rifle. I did that for nearly a month before picking up my ACOG. I was debating between an ACOG, Eotech and Aimpoint. My leanings were for an Eotech but ended up with the ACOG and am very happy about it. However, like I said I have normal scopes and wouldn't not have one. Double negatives are awful to use, but I think you get what I'm saying. Fortunately, they make quick release mounts so I can interchange all of my optics |

It took me a month to decide what upper I wanted so itll prob take me two months on the scopes

Nikon makes excellent scopes, some of which are very inexpensive (3-9x40 Prostaff, $120ish). If it holds zero and the glass is clear, then use it.

Quoted: The reviews on the Barska are like Primary Arms decent to very good they say they hold zero extremely well and the only thing is the reticle may not be as clear as the expensive scopes etc.. "The Reviews" uh? Well do you know there are people that write reviews for products all over the internet that get paid for it. They never use the product, just write reviews. And others are written by idiots. Sure they are fine if you only mount them and take a few pictures of the gun. Most likely even hold up to a little shooting but they will fail. If it's a Barska or a NCStar you can be sure of one thing, if it's not junk today it will be soon. They are built of the cheapest materials and most of the red dots I have seen apart have glue holding most of it together. Let it set in the hot sun for a while and then shoot it and see how that works out. Do a search here for Barska and NCStar. looks great man!
i've got a primary arms micro dot on my AR for now too. Its been great, holds zero, dot is pretty crisp. I got it so I could shoot with it until I save up for an aimpoint, which is now on the way, and then the PA micro dot is going on my m&p 15-22 so i have a similarly set up .22 to train on (since i can't afford boat loads of 5.56) |
