Ok guys, let me get some feedback.  I have a spikes lower YHM upper with full length rail I'm also running a spikes st2 buffer and spring.  The barrel on it currently used to be a sbr 10.5 I have a commando long flash hider on it now. Unk bolt and carrier.  So I've been running this thing with sparatic results, mostly double feeds.  It's got a carbine length gas sytem. So here's what I think ,let me know. To correct this I am going to replace my bolt and put  a longer barrel. I want to go to a 16 cuz I'm really liking this 3 gun stuff. Also I'm going to switch to a midlength gas tube. I'm currently running a low pro block on it

I'm thinking my heavy buffer and older bolt combined with this short barrel is causing my issue.

So if I switch out barrel ,bolt and gas tube and nice my gas block this should fix it. Suggestions. Thanks.

Please describe what you're calling a "double feed".  Most situations where more than one live round is loose in the upper receiver are due to a bad magazine, so before you start messing with expensive parts, eliminate the magazine as the culprit.

i know, this is a non mag related double feed.  ive run lancer, magpul, and usgi mags with magpul anti tilt followers.  Same result with all 3.

Is it a failure to extract then, with one round stuck in the chamber and a fresh one trying to come in behind it?

Affirm. Not extracting properly  but wondering if its due to bolt speed. Extrqctor inspection looks good.

Try a new extractor spring first.

Do this first, with an exceptionally well cleaned chamber and see if it helps.  Always do only one change at a time.  This is critical; if you make more than one change at a time, you could fix the issue with one then screw it up again with something else.  Always do one thing and test it before trying the next.

Just a nit pick, but what you're describing is not a "double feed."  A double feed is when two LIVE rounds are released into the upper at the same time.  Your more complete explanation of the problem is a classic failure to extrace...or maybe to eject.  A good extractor spring is an easy to do fix, but if that doesn't do the job, it won't hurt anything when you go to the next step: verifying your EJECTOR is working.  That involves removing the ejector and iits spring and making sure both are in good shape and that the ejector moves freely.  (Removing the ejector is a pain, but not complicated.)

I put a new extractor spring and buffer in it ...same issue no change.

Will the bolt lock back if just one rnd is loaded into the mag ? I do mean locked back on the bolt too not just the carrier. You might be short stroking and the carrier is picking up the next rnd while the fired case was never fully ejected.

What kind of ammo are you using? Try a few different kinds just to be sure it's not that, especially if you are using steel cased stuff.

Try putting an O-Ring around your extractor spring
