I was hoping to zero in the iron sights on my new rifle today (Colt 6920 MOE) but it is raining outside.

Will have to postpone until tomorrow.

While I'm waiting...any tips on zeroing in iron sights on an AR-15? (It has the front fixed sight and the Magpul flip up rear sight.)

I use the M4 sighting in target that the .mil uses. Set it up at 25 yards and adjust as needed till I'm in the circle. I don't have one off the top of my head, but if you google OHMR Form 2444-B that'll help.

Shooting in the rain is fun. Watching the rain drops disappear on the barrel is cool.

If you have a sight adjustment tool, it helps with elevation adjustments. Windage is easy enough. But I agree with the post above. Go shoot in the rain. It was dumping on us during one of my most favorite shoots ever...

What I'd give for a couple days of rain to put these wildfires out.

Cool! I went anyway and got it in using the target a previous poster mentioned. Was able to get it zeroed in and had the range all to myself!!

Why do you always feel the need to do this?  Is your life really so insignifigant that you scour the board searching for posts you deem inappropriate for the tech forums?  I'vemgot news for you; They are NEVER going to make you a moderator!

I've got an F Marked front and a MagPul Rear.

I always start at 10 yards, it should shoot about 3 inches low, then move to 25, 50 and end at 100. I like them dead on at 100 yards with back up irons.

It's a rifle, 100 yards should be your mid range fun distance with iron sights.

I've got 600 yards to play with, but only from the end of deer season through spring planting. I shoot in snow, rain, mud, and occasionally sun. I do enjoy detailing my rifle when I'm done. It's like how some guys drive their Harley though the only puddle in the road just because they get to have a beer and hide in the garage for a while.

Come on! Give me a break - I'm a first time AR-15 owner.

I hear comments about rust and just didn't know it was ok to get it out in weather like that. NOW I know!

Rust is nothing! Wait till you see your rifle melt right in front of your eyes when rain hits it....

Seriously, you and your AR will be fine under the rain. We had one rifle competition done during the monsoon rains. Slipping and sliding, our rifles were all wet and muddy and heavy!
