A couple years ago I decided to go shopping for my first rifle. I've been a hand gun guy for about 8 years. Never owned any firearms until was out of the house and settled down. Family didn't hunt, or own anything other than my great grandfathers shotgun.
Looked around for a local owned shop, found the guy I enjoy talking to and am willing to spend my money with. (even spend some late night holidays at house now) For a first rifle I was looking at spending $1k or less, I didn't want to spend a ton of money if I didn't really get into going to the range and enjoying it. He sold me on DPMS as a brand, as that what is he shoots in competition and his wife as well. Picked up the DPMS Recon ( picks at http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_30/224387_DPMS_Recon_5_56.html ) Now I am looking at getting a second rifle, with the first going to my wife. I am not stuck to any brand, just like to get most bang for my buck. Currently have $1600 burning a hole in my spending money jar. Probably be able to pop that up to $2400 by end of the year. But would also like to be able to get a decent set of optics within a month or so of rifle being received, so should try to stick under $2k unless something is really going to amaze me. Probably just talking my way through a decision through a forum, but here goes what my current choices seem to be. Daniel Defense M4V5 either standard or lightweight Rainier Arms RUC 16" Larue (if I can convince myself the wait is worth) or build... Seekins Lower (love that look) - Geissele SD-E (like flat triggers) - fill in LPK and stock - with a complete upper from company that has a setup I like I am not quite comfortable enough yet to build my upper, but more than ready to build the lower. Anywho it's late for me, and probably rambling... thanks! |
