Hello, all

As of 72 hours ago i am the proud owner of an ar 15 stripped lower reciever. This rifle will be both my first AR build and my first AR 15.

As it sits i am doing research on which parts kits to put in and what trigger to put in.

what i am settled on is this.

-the rifle will be 6.8 (stag arms lefty upper)

-3lb trigger because ill be buying a trigger anyway, i am open to other opinions on this

- 16in barrel

-magpul ubr stock (Like the consistent cheek-weld) and magpul or hogue pistol grips.

-magpul BUS

-the upper will be coming with its own freefloat quadrail

my dumb questions are;

-will a 5.56 spring be good with 6.8 or do i need a different spring/buffer

-looking for a high value scope, like leopold cqbss but cant afford it. like the acog but want variable power.

looking for variable zoom but non battery reliant

-thinking about angle iron sights as an alternative to stacked optics. and as a possible competition build. willing to listen to options. but do not like breaking cheek weld to use close up sights.

i know i may have misconceptions and/or large gaps in knowledge but that's why im posting here

I can't answer your question Diesel, but I just finished my first build using a Stag lefty (5.56).  It's the first left handed gun I've owned and I absolutely love shooting and not having brass flying in front of my face.  Good luck on the build and getting the answers you are looking for.

Have you considered for your first AR one in 5.56?  6.8 you will not be shooting it as often due to cost and availability of ammo.  I believe everyone should build a 5.56/223 for first AR that way you will be able to shoot it much much more.

Not saying 6.8 is a bad cartridge or anything just I think you will be happier when you can go to the range and blast 100 rds in 20 mins instead of 20 rounds in 30 seconds and be out 20 bucks.

I guess first and foremost it'd be good to know your intentions for this rifle?

UBR is a great stock, little on the heavy side.

3lb straight trigger pull is a little light if you plan to run and gun.

6.8 is vastly more expensive and not availible everywhere and certainly not everywhere in quanity, but if that's what you want....
It uses standard AR15/M16 buffers and springs.

If you want variable with illumination and not battery reliant, Trijicon has a full line of them, no they're not all mil-dot and they don't offer allot of reticle choices, but they're a viable option, depending on your needs.
Stacked optics are ridiculous, its just bullk and weight, I can see no good reason for a variable with such a high low end as to be unusable up close on a rifle that will need to be used up close in a hurry on a civilian rifle. Don't kid yourself to your rifle's purpose and stack shit on it for no reason. Now if you're shooting competition you may have a viable argument for an offset micro red-dot, but the majority of 3 gunners I've seen just run a low power 1-4, 1-6 variable. If your optic is 1X or very close on the bottom and has a good field of view there you will gain little if any with a reddot and possibly loose time with irons. If you want to bust groundhogs at 600yds in the morning and run thru shoot houses in the afternoon, well you'd probably be best served by two different rifles or atleast to different optics, QR mounts make it easy for them not to both live on the rifle.
BUIS are just that, back up. Mount them on the top rail, zero them, put your optic on in a quality QR mount. Then confirm zero or play with your irons when you're bored or want to refresh on them, otherwise leave them there patiently waiting for a time that will probably never come.

Spring is the same. Buffers vary between weapons.
Geissele SSA-E for the FCG.
Leupold has plenty of choices at various prices.
Illuminated reticle scopes are not dependent on illumination to see the reticle.
Never heard of angle iron sights.
A low power optic does not require a close range alternate.
