| So in looking at most likely thousands of the pictures the Hive has posted i have noticed a sweeping trend. Most, or many i suppose, people have FDE or tan guns and gear. Now if most people on here live in the desert like i do i guess that would be expected but most of the country isnt desert-y. So i guess my question is, Do most of you with FDE stuff live in the desert where it would be functional as a camo or do you just like it? |
| I live in the NW, we have a little of everything up here, high desert(FDE or FG), Forest(OD,multi- cam), mountain(snow/white),coastal(multi-cam) So I built My AR's to fit the environment I'm heading out to. ..and for fun! Next i want to do a flat brown/grey earthy colored gun..just because. |

Tan blends in much better than OD green does 80% of the time where I'm at. If I had to pick one solid color for all my gear it would be Desert tan or FDE. |

Tan is the most common color that occurs in nature You don't have to live in the desert to benefit from FDE, go look at my lawn ![]() Any natural colors that break up an outline of something solid helps, that's what camouflage is all about. At the last carbine course I took, the instructor had a guy lay down in some tall grass, unknown to the rest of us, we walked about 200 yards away then he asked us to spot him. He was wearing a bright white t-shirt and we still had trouble. The grass was all brown from the lack of rain we'd been having. If he was wearing a tan or OD shirt we probably would never have spotted him...just saying. Plus I think FDE looks the best |

All bs aside about what color appears in nature and all that hubba shit, fact is weve been at war in the desert for 20 years and every backyard marine wants what the mil has. After vietnam and all the horrible(GREAT!! lol) 80's war movies every guy had some tiger stripe and a head band, and of course a giant hunting knife with some 550 para cord on it. FDE may blend well in almost any enviroment, but it still doesnt mean its the best for probably 80% of these locations. The best camo in GA still isnt the best for TN, or even AL for that matter. Hell I wear different(completely different) camo to hunt in north GA as I do in south GA. No camo is the best everywhere, and dark brown(like tree bark or doo-doo, not fde obviously) or green shades appear more often than tan or fde everywhere except desert or really dry climates which make up a very small portion of our country as stated earlier. I mean around here youll see FDE blend in...if you lay on the ground in a dry patch with no grass, trees, or ANYTHING around ya know kinda like a desert area.
