if anyone can provide me with some info, id appreciate it. i have a colt pre ban sporter II its a normal sp xxxxxxa serial number but ends with the letter A. never have seen this before. anyone know about this? thanks

thank you, i just figured id ask here, but have seen some colt listings and have never seen a ser. no. end with a letter

Usually indicates the rifle was a factory replacement.

Which brings up an interesting thought: when was the rifle replaced? This has everything to do with being lawfully possessed and preban in the eyes of NYS.

Colt will be able to provide that information.

The date of replacement does not matter, as oem was allowed to replace pre-ban rifles, and have them retain their pre-banness.

All sporter II rifles are preban - they stopped making them in 1989 after the stockton massacre

thanks again to all, that makes sense. also agreed, replacement here is ok as long as a new gun is not created. we are allowed ex to replace the upper reciever with the same config. and be ok
