This is more likely going to sound like a silly question to some of you, but. We only have one AR lower here right now and I cannot remember from others how the safety worked. Question is when the hammer is dropped should you be able to move the safety selector to safe or fire? Or will it only operate when the hammer is cocked?  Thanks

No, when the hammer is dropped you should not be able to engage the safety.

No it's not silly..As stated,  rifle must be charged for the safety to apply

What's silly is we continue to get questions like this in the tech forums...I would be embarrassed to post  a basic function question that is covered in any manual and that a simple google search would yield the answer.

I also get very nervous at the sight of an AR at the range because of the apparent lack of knowledge that most new AR owners possess about the function of thier rifles.

I would continue, but this is a tech forum and I promised Aimless I would be kinder in my posts...

But the restraint is not near as entertaining.
