I tried to search this in the forums but the search is not working for me. I have a Colt H-Bar and it has a nice comp on it but it back blasts at the people sitting next to me at the range. It is pretty bad. I am looking for a comp that would lessen that or just a solid screw on barrel extension. Any info would be awesome. Thank You All!

LOL.  It's a gun range what do they want ..... Also the troy claymore vents all the gasses out the front

If it didn't blow off their ear and eye protection, how bad can it be?

You could try this one, but I have no idea how well it works.

You could be a test dummy for me and get one that vents out the front from AlumaliteUsa to see if they work well or not since I can't find any reviews :)

Ever been at the range next to someone with a .45-70 with a comp and no place to move to?

You could try making one.  That's what I'm going to do.
Or what about the Battlecomp?  I've also been thinking about buying that but I don't know if it's too loud or not, but from what I've read, it's not too loud.

I have a Noveske KX3 on one rifle and it does work in that blast/sound wave are projected down range. Regards

Are you otherwise unhappy with your current brake?  If not, and the only reason you want a new one is to be "nicer" to fellow shooters at the range.....................then I would save my money.  It's a shooting range.  Guns are loud.

I like my MB556Ks, they tend to clear off the surrounding benches so I can put my stuff on them.

I put the DPMS A2 brake on one of mine, its the most tolerable brake I've had, compared to a Miculek and Izzy, which are pretty damn loud.
7/7/2012 3:11:14 PM EDT
[#13]
The A2 gets the job done for cheap and not quite as annoying to your neighbors at the range.

That seems to be true of mine. I don't spend a ton of time at a proper range but when I do I try to find a bench away from people so they don't get annoyed. It sucks to sit next to people with huge comps.

The comp does a good job of dissipating the gasses in such a way that it minimized muzzle climb + recoil and does not make the person adjacent to you deaf...and it doesn't cost $400 like the Triple Tap.

How good is the Claymore at reducing muzzle climb?  I've read that it's not that good, in which case I don't say how it would be worth the money.

Others annoyed by noise and muzzle blast? Try shooting a pair of .44cal '51 Navys with real black powder I ruffle some feathers big time when I do that at the range

The Wilson combat "tactical brake" (it looks like a less open A1 FH) seemed (surprisingly) pretty quiet to me compared to other brakes.

I have a Spike's Tactical Dynacomp and it's not loud. Just a notch up from an A2 FH in terms of noise. My range buddies can pretty much tolerate it and no side concussions either.

Yeah I understand it is a gun range and no one has complained but I was sitting next to it when my brother was shooting it and it was pretty damn  bad. Thanks all who gave me suggestions. I will be researching them. The Battle Comp is sweet looking.

I have a Miculek on mine..my daughter said it was the loudest gun on the range..but like previous posters said––its a gun range and guns are loud! if they dont like it, theyll move

Not in my experience. Is it louder?...a bit so. But not deafening and the side blast is minimal.

I've found the BC to be the most range friendly and effective comp out there. The JP and Surefire brakes both do a bit better job with muzzle rise, but are both obnoxious with noise, concussive blast and flash.

And solely speaking comps...I've found the PWS, dynacomp and BC to all be pretty on par with muzzle rise, but the BC is quieter, less concussive and a bit better with flash suppression.

Got a Griffin Armament M4-SD compensator last week. Only put about 100 rounds through it and so far I'm very impressed. My range is really loud because the sun shade over top the shooting benches is steel and echos horribly, but my shooting buddies didn't notice I had a comp on instead of the A2 birdcage until I pointed it out to them. Joeboboutfitters has them on sale really cheap right now, almost half of what a Battle Comp will run you for 95% of the performance of a BC.

I've ran the Levang Linear on a Kel tec PLR-16 5.56 pistol, it's great for blast control on a short barrel but does nothing for muzzle jump.
I just added an Effin A comp made by Ares Armor to my 7.62x39 upper. Only had it out once to 'tune it up' but so far it's worked well for me, big reduction in muzzle jump, although no difference in recoil which I expected due to it's design.. I've got mine indexed so the upper rows are at 11 & 1 o'clock and I've only opened the upper ports so it only vents up. My spotter who usually sits on the other side of the shooting table at our favorite public range didn't notice any difference.

Get a G3 308 clone with a comp.  The blast will clear 2 tables on either side of you.  The brass being thrown from the  ejection port will kill any survivors to your right.

The Mini-Y Comp wins for worst blast redirect ever. It's the only muzzle device that I've found that will make my teeth hurt from 20 feet behind the shooter.

I have a number of different comps. The battlecomp and 3T are the least obnoxious. I think my Surefire is my most.

Don't get a YHM comp (5C1?)  It is downright miserable to be near it when it goes off.  It's effective, but it rattles teeth.

I have a RRA LE Compensator, and although I do not have a large pool to work from in the noise department, it seems to be REALLY loud if you are off the sides of it.  If my wife is shooting and I am sitting back and behind her, I will jump/flinch every time it goes off.  You get a nice concussion wave with each shot.
I think I need to try a Battlecomp.....

How about a double rifle in .416 Rigby? Jeeeez, after that I would have begged to be next to a guy with and AR and a comp.

I've shot/heard dozens of different comps, Miculek is possibly the loudest and the Levang Liniar is the quietest.  The Levang does little for muzzle jump if that's a problem with the rifle.
