Considering you can still buy them here:

http://store.ar15.com/store/product.html?cat=9&prod=282

I would say that production numbers don't really matter for something you can still buy new...it's not going to be some super collector piece that's been discontinued already.  It also depends what stock is on the gun...there's a big difference in price even between something like a Magpul UBR vs. MOE.  Without knowing specifics about what grip/stock are on the gun or if it has been used at all I'd say $500-$650

Way I see it:
-AR15.com lower - $275
-Various LPK - $50-$60
-Magpul MOE and mount kit - $75
-Geissele SSA - $200

Basically build a new one for a little under $600...since you're buying second hand even if it is new I wouldn't pay $600, I'd rather build it myself

Again...since you can buy one brand new, there is no point in paying some outrageous fee, so I hope they aren't telling you this is some discontinued item.

Edit:  I guess I didn't realize they also had a forged lower, but if it's one of these:

Take $150 off the estimates I said before

Normal looking stock wasnt anything special
Normal grip
Did have some sort of single point sling adapter

And a price tag of $900

Is it new?  If it has a BAD-ASS and maybe like a CTR or something...I could see him having spent like $700...maybe $750 to build it himself if he got ripped off by a few places.  It does have a low serial number which some might find desirable.  If I were you I'd send him the link to the billet one on the AR15.com store still being available for purchase and see what he has to say about it.

You can buy that as a complete lower from the AR15.com store and even includes the relatively expensive Norgon ambi-mag release which retails for a little under $100.  Those complete lowers sell with that CTR stock for $821 brand spanking new.  You didn't mention that it had the Norgon and without it, it would be a $730 lower for everything brand new.  Sounds like he's trying to make some money by representing it as a discontinued or rare item, which it isn't.  You should send him the link to that complete lower as well which sounds like it has more and is almost $100 less than he wants.
