I picked up a 42 round magazine today and i loaded it up and wanted to see if there would be a big weight difference, different feel etc.  When I attempted to insert the magazine it would not lock unless I really hit it hard, I then went one by one and had the same issue with every one of my mags, I unloaded one of the mags and it slipped in and locked in place with ease, other than the 42 round I have used all of the others many times without an issue.

I took the pins out removed the bolt and nothing seems to be in the wrong place but I also noticed my bolt will not lock back anymore, hoping someone else has put something in wrong as I must have after a good cleaning.

Thanks in advance.

Who makes the 42 rd mag?

I have been hard pressed to find a 100% reliable mag beyond a 30rd capacity.  The surefire 60-100 round mags still have spotted reports of not being 100%.
I think I will stick with my p-mags, lancers, and GI-magpul upgrade magazines.

I have the same thing, if I open the bolt and lock it open manually (dont remember having to do that before) all is well, I unloaded every mag and recounted the rounds, one of the mags had 1 to many in it, but another was 1 short, they both had the same hard insertion issues, unless I put them in empty, seems like the rounds are hitting the bolt or something I dont see anything though.

I could be wrong but I read your post several times over to make sure.  I think what you are experiencing is normal.  If the bolt is forward/closed you will have to slap (rather hard) most any magazine in.  It's just the way it is with a fully loaded mag.  The magazine is loaded to it's max and the spring is fully compressed in there.  So you have to hit it pretty hard in order to get it to seat.  Try this.....Use your bolt catch to lock the bolt to the rear.  Now try inserting any of your fully loaded mags.  They will more than likely just slide in and click.  I could be wrong, but I think what I am reading is very normal.

Yes, you are correct.  Your rounds are hitting the bottom of the carrier.  That is normal.  The rounds have to compress slightly further to let the magazine lock in.  That's why fully loaded mags need to be popped to lock into place when the bolt is forward.

It's been a few weeks since I shot it (and I have only shot it 3 times) but I just dont remember it being this way, I guess it could just be a good excuse to get out and shoot it....if it would only stop raining.

The 42 rd mag is made by pro mag www.promagindustries.com, I picked it up at Academy Sports today for $19.99, wasn't a deal more of an impulse purchase.

So does your bolt lock back on an empty mag now?

It's working as advertised. Tap, rack, bang.

I guess all is good, I need to get out and shoot this thing.

Thanks for all the help.

OVERLOADED by at least ONE round. Mag capacity out of the gun is usually NOT mag capacity IF you want to put it IN with bolt CLOSED. Back off a round or two.

Just load on an open bolt the same as you would when firing.
