| And trying to decide on a barrel. I am between a lw50 in 18" or a sam-r in 20". I am mating this to a noveske upper/lower and will be shooting at 400 to 600 yards with it. What says arfcom on these two lengths? |
| I just finished a Coyote Rifle build a few weeks ago. I used a Noveske flared lower and and a matching upper. For the barrel I used the Rainier Arms 20 inch SDM fluted style. It is not chrome lined, melonited, or the like. So far, with factory loads from Hornady between 67 and 70 grains I get sub-moa at 200 yards without too much trouble. I have not yet tested it past that point but I can tell you the fit and finish of the barrel is excellent and for a rifle that will be carried in the field for long distances, the fluting really saves weight. If you have never done business with Rainier, I can tell you they are absolutely top-notch guys, you would be well served to give them a call. |

I had a 16" wilson that I had no problem with out to 500yd (the longest I had a chance to shoot it at) and now have a 18" douglas that I've shot out to 800m. I don't think the extra 2" of velocity makes that big of a difference but its kind of apples to oranges as I didn't shoot them to the same max range.
Do what you want. If length and weight are not a factor go with the 20" for the little extra zip, if they are go shorter. |

I've had several LW50 barrels; all mine were match grade and shot better than MOA. The LW50 steel is arguably the best SS you can get, and will last longer. Larue uses LW50 on his OBR. That's kind ofht I thought and that's the way I am leaning. The rainier arms barrels look good too. I looked at the match ones. |

I'll add in WOA 18" SPR barrel. Mine is capable of .75" groups at 200 yds. I have a WOA 18" SPR and with hand loaded 77smk I am getting .5moa. I recommend it hands down. From what I understand, WOA uses Wilson blanks. So does RRA on their varmint uppers. Quoted:
Any opinions on mid length versus rifle length gas? My WOA is Mid length. I have built three rifles and have a factory RRA with midlength gas and carbine buffer and have had great success with all four of them. I may be a fluke. |

My stealth upper is a shooter as well. It loves 69 smk's and believe it or not m193..... OBTW my stealth is an 18" 1/8 medium contour midlength gas. Damn I must be an addict. |

My WOA is doing that with PRVI 75 gr Match rounds, so I believe .5 MOA using handloads without a shred of doubt. |
