Just got my NY state legal, Clint Beyer barreled .22 upper. When I snapped it on my lower, my buffer spring shot past the detent (caught on the new bolt I think). I also noticed that there are gaps jn front and behing the BCG when looking at it from the side. Is this normal or am I just not used to seeing a 22 bolt ;with no dust cover)???? Thanks in advance for the help.

That gap is normal behind the bolt on a 22 CMMG.  The bolt rides on rails with it's own recoil spring and is blow back operated so there is no gas system.  The buffer and spring are not required but help to keep the bolt in position.  There is a new plug you can put in the buffer tube if you are concerned.  Lots of info on AR15.com in the rimfire and pistol section.

Thank you for your response and I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place! I will read the forums tomorrow at work and see what they say. I wanted to take the buffer and spring out but wasnt sure if I'd lose the bolt in the tUbe or cause an OOB!

I always left the buffer & spring in, and I've had great luck with my Spike's 5.5" upper in semi-auto.  Are these events connected?  Probably not, but it stays a nice snug fit.
