bought a barrel from a sponsor here that is melonited. Was told the manufacturer was bulldog barrels.
Question is - Why is the bore grey/silver? Melonite turns the metal black. The outside is black. Al other melonite barrels I have owned were black inside/out. Was this melonited and then rifled? Why would a manufacturer cut the bore after meloniting? Am I missing something? |

Melonite barrels are treated inside and out (usually black in color). Ionbond barrels are only treated on the outside leaving the bore it's natural color while being black on the outside. Do you have any insight on bulldog barrels? Sorry but I have no first hand expirence with their products. |

There are different forms of Nitriding. I've never seen a barrel that's been Nitrided AND Phosphated. Ever seen a Gen1 or Gen2 Glock? Or the new finish they have gone to. They have deviated from the shiny black finish back to the phosphate finish again. |

They have deviated from the shiny black finish back to the phosphate finish again. Is it gray or black? The flat black is oxide; the old gray finish is phosphate. Looking at some Gen4 pics online sure looks like gray phosphate again. |

I can guarantee you the bore wasn't rifled after meloniting. It would be nearly impossible to cut the rifling afterward, and even if you could, you would lose the protection the meloniting added. My guess is you are returning the barrel for nothing. I have seen many melonite barrels. Mostly from ARP and Adams Arms. They have all been black inside/out. Like I said, the bore was almost a white color it was so white. The rep where they came from even agreed they should be black inside/out. That is why they are taking them back. |
