I've been wanting a AR 15 for some time now but didn't want to spend more than 1K on it so decided to try building a stripped lower for the first time. I have not decided on a optic yet but thinking about a Vortex Sparc Micro Red Dot. Thought it was going to be more difficult building the lower but it really wasn't bad at all. Thanks to everyone on this site that answered all my questions!!!  Snapped a couple of quick pics with my phone. Here is what I have so far. Have a little over $800 in it.

Spikes Stripped Lower
Spikes Lower Parts Kit
ALG Combat ACT Trigger
Spikes Complete Upper
Magpul CTR Stock
Magpul MOE Plus Grip
Magpul Pmag

Nice-looking rifle too!

Thanks fellas!  It was pretty easy....  What rear sight do you guys recommend?  What do you guys think about a Vortex Sparc Red Dot?

The Troy rear BUIS is a really nice sight. I wasn't sure they were worth the extra coin over an MBUS, but once I handled all the sights available at a local shop, the Troy was the clear winner. I's just a nice, solid design.

I've been looking at that Troy sight but just wasn't sure if it was worth the extra money.  How about a Sparc Vortex Micro Red Dot???

If I were to get a red dot and wanted to save some money on a back up rear sight, I would look in the Equipment Exchange for a Matech BUIS.

Very nice looking rifle! You must have done your homework to build yourself a great, simple first rifle

The Vortex is a really good sight for the money. I have one. No problems. Primary Arms makes a really good optic too, but for half the price. You may want to check them out.

If you went that route you could get the optic and MBUS and still have $50 to spend on ammo. Like others said, get your BUS before any optic.

The only other thing I'd add to that rifle is a sling, then call it done!

Nice build.  I was in the same situation not too long ago. Went with a YHM filp up rear, and Vortex Strike- Fire red/green dot(wanted NV compatibility for least $)
Iron sight $80+ $165 for the dot, (the reviews speak volumes about that product.)
Good Luck

What's the difference between the Sparc & Strikefire?  Also would it be a bad idea to go with a Magpul MBUS & a Red Dot or better to just stick with Troy & later get a Red Dot???

Well I think I'm going to go with a Magpul MBUS & a Vortex Sparc Red Dot.  Haven't even fired it yet but already thinking of what to build next.

Pretty soon you'll get into building uppers too.
