Nothing beats the right tool for the job.
If you don't have an armorer's wrench, I'm guessing you don't have a receiver block either. You do know how easy it is to distort / damage that upper, right? Take a deep breath, delay gratification for a few days, and use the right tools. |
| Since you obviously don't want to buy the barrel nut wrench I would switch to a pipe wrench. youve probably already screwed up the barrel nut, so it shouldnt hurt it much more. You can also cut the barrel nut with a dremel if its on too tight. I had a frozen barrel nut that broke my Spikes wrench and I ended up cutting it off. |

Get a cheap barrel nut wrentch. i am all about saving money but i have learned with these kind of things it better just to eat the 20-30$ and do the job right. Good luck Got a feeling that it might be too late for a barrel nut wrench....too chewed up from the Channellocks. Anyway, we'd have to try to convince him that he needs a vice, clamshell, etc as well. That ain't gonna happen. I envision one guy standing on the weapon (human vice) and the other wielding the pipe wrench. As seen in Pakistani School of Gunsmithing videos. Then it's more popcorn while they try to get the new hand guard installed correctly. |

Like he said, get the proper tools. |
