A friend of mine gave me a Colt lower and I want to put a non-Colt upper on it. IIRC, there is a difference in the holes / pins for the upper and lower. Do I need some sort of adapter for the front and rear, or only the front? Has anyone done this and how did it work out? Thanks |

The pins should be the same and any upper should bolt right up to the Colt lower.
That is if the Colt lower isn't an older model with the large front take down pin. The rear pin is the standard size on all Colts. All slabside lowers (no mag fence) have this larger front pin design. Some of the late model preban ones also have it. If it is newer it should be a .250" pivot pin and you probably don't need to change anything. If it is an older lower with the .315" pivot pin then you will need one of these. Or you could build on a new big hole upper. |
