Thanks all. I had shopped around a bit and finally decided on the Colt. The guys at Kesselrings Gun Shop in Burlington WA gave me a killer deal, I'll be buying a lot more from them.
Have a bunch of guys out here that I work with who are all shooters, one in particular happens to own an eotech, aimpoint and a trij, so I'm going to test them all next Friday then decide which one I want from there. |
Great choice for your first AR, congrats.
When I got my first AR ages ago when I was living there in Seattle, there was only one AR model available that time which was the Colt AR-15 SP1 rifle, fast forward to today currently with four Colt and a LMT and previously I had six Colt carbines and rifles. You won't be disappointed, I never had any problems with any of my colt rifles and carbines, just take good care of it and always have your bolt well lubed, use good ammo and mags. It seems that your family needs some Surefire weaponlight goodness, you'll be fine in the daytime but at night the zombies are going to get you. For optics I would recommend any Aimpoint model that you might like, later on if you would like a magnified optic either get a 3X Aimpoint magnifier or an ACOG. With my Colt SP6920 carbine my overall sling favorite is my Viking Tactics VTAC two point sling for when I'm not shooting, like hiking, running, climbing, it could get adjusted really snug to the body and won't loosen, when I'm shooting more like practice or carbine classes I prefer my Vickers VCAS two point sling. Get some more PMAG at least have a minimum of 7 mags and buy plenty of ammo, just shoot it a lot and enjoy. |
