ok. well i cant get the m6 60 dollars cheaper from another site. is that sixty dollar savings worth goin for the m4? is the recoil on the m4 that much different? Some notice the recoil, others don't, but the recoil isn't the only thing. The operating pressures in a middy are considerable lower all around, which makes for a smoother and less-harsh unlock as well as other operations. You may notice it or you may not, but it's there. Mid-length also offers you greater hand-guard real-estate and a longer sight-radius. That said, many owners love their carbine gas-system ARs. IMO gas systems are best for the following barrel lengths: 14.5" barrel = Carbine 16" barrel = Mid-length 20"+ barrel = Rifle Granted there are MANY variances and in-between lengths that operate just fine. Just my opinion. |

Did you follow the advice I gave you in my previous post? I ask because if you did, you would have found a large number of threads from a variety of forums that discuss the differences, both objective and subjective, between a carbine gas system and a mid length gas. They are different but only you can decide if their differences matter to you.

I really like everything about mid-length gas on a 14.5" or 16" barrel...the bolt/carrier and buffer isn't slamming around as hard, you have more rail/forearm real-estate (good for resting on barricades, as well as adding accessories) and the recoil isn't quite as harsh. Long story short, there are several benefits of going mid-length, and no reason not to (that I can think of).
About the recoil, it's not a huge difference, but less recoil is always better for making follow-up shots. Nothing in 5.56 is going to have what I'd consider harsh recoil, but if you go out on the same day and shoot a 14.5-16" carbine, a 14.5-16" middy and a 20" barrel with rifle gas, you'll see that the middy and rifle feel almost identical, whereas the carbine has just a little more "kick" to it. |

I got the carbine and middy gas systems. I have no issues with the carbine gas system. The middy I do notice a softer recoil impluse. The one thing I like on the middy is that if you are running a rail system greater than 7". It is great to have. More real estate to have. |

You might check aimsurplus.com they are a distributor for Spikes Tactical and you can even get the rifle cheaper from Aim along with free shipping.
Either place you get it from plan on a wait because they are always on backorder. Spikes puts out a quality rifle at a great price and people usually snap them right up when they do become available. The wait is worth it. ETA: I have a middy length and a carbine length gas system, can't tell any difference in recoil. I really like both, but the middy just looks better proportionate-wise to me. |
