I just read the Ar15 #1112 newsletter, and checked out the PFC -Double,Double video. I like the drill a lot, because it does require you to think about what you are going to want to do when engaging multiple targets and threats. I've watched a number of different videos on tactics and drills over the years, and have made an interesting observation while watching them.
Many, but not all of the shooters going through the drills, have a tendancy to remain static when going through the drills they are performing. I really like a lot of the tactics and drills that Gabe Suarez does, because he does promote moving off the X. If these targets were armed threats, then it would stand to reason that by moving your position ( however slight ), you would present a much more difficult target for aggressors to lock on to. In the Double, Double video, if he had stepped slightly aside, or even dropped to a kneeling position to engage the second target, then his movements would be a bit more in line with actions that would be more condusive to a firefight. Maybe I'm reading a little bit too much into it, but as someone who has done a little bit of shooting...a moving target is still a little bit harder to hit, and draw a good bead on, so it seems to reason that if you move a bit (again, however slight), then you would have the upper hand in the situation, and that is what you always want to begin with...right ? Just an observation. |

When someone is shooting at you trust me you will be moving because in training the targets do not shoot back and hardly ever move. When you are in real combat the targets shoot back they move and they are trying to kill you. Staying static is bad idea unless you have good cover that can shield you from the copper coated candy.
That is the problem with the way some people train they train and never realize that the other guy is trying to kill you and he is shooting back. They learn how to shoot a target and nothing more .... The day they get in a firefight and the bullets start coming their way they trained to fail. |
