How do I tell if I have a milspec or commercial tube I want to put a better stock on and have to figure it out before I make a purchase

The commercial buffer tube usually has a slanted end and the mil-spec are flat (90 degrees)

Also, the threads on a mil-spec are a larger diameter then the tube, so you will notice a step down from the threads to the rest of the tube and commercial tubes, the threads are the same diameter as the tube.

Also, the commercial tubes are longer and heavier.

Topic no 8, in the stickied FAQ at the top of the forum.  This is seriously at least the third thread asking this same question this weekend.
