This will be my only AR at this time. Wont be my first or my last but probably my only one for the next few years at least. It will be for general range use and plinking. I dont shoot too terribly much mostly due to time and a lack of a decent place to shoot. I would do good to go through a case a year. I have several AKs so it would be nice to have a rifle that would be a bit more fun to sit down and shoot from the bench every now and then as well. Also would be considered just in case the SHTF. Heck who am I kidding, with my knee and back Id be zombie bait from the get go.

Any how Ive narrowed it down to three choices:

Palmetto State Armory 16'' SS Mid-length MOE Rifle Kit
http://palmettostatearmory.com/2277.php

or

Palmetto State Armory 16'' Hammer-Forged,  Mid-Length, Rifle Kit
http://palmettostatearmory.com/8978.php

or

Palmetto State Armory 20'' CMV Chrome-lined Rifle Kit
http://palmettostatearmory.com/8816.php

Im leaning towards the SS because I personally like shorter barrels and from what little I know the SS barrel might be a bit more accurate for those times when I sit on the bench. Trade off would be weight, how much more does it weigh? I cant seem to find it on the website.

I vote for the 16'' hammer forged mid length kit

What advantage would it have over the SS barrel? Weight? Longevity? Honestly longevity is probably the least of my concerns due to my lack of shooting.

I vote 16" HF Middy too, I ordered the 14.7 one yesterday before the site crashed.

That would be my vote too, but since you already have many AK's, and want a bench gun I'd say one of the other two for you.

There are some differences but I'm not 100% sure what they are the hammer forged barrels will last 50,000 rounds, the SS is supposedly a little more accurate, but the HF barrels would do everything I would need it for and more. I would turn it in to a Recce type rifle, that way you can use it for a bench rifle and a fighting carbine, I guess its a personal preference. If you just wanted a bench rifle I would go with the 20''

Hope this helps

I would vote for the 16" as well.  I was issued an A2 then A4 and finally an M4, I prefer the carbine over the full sized AR.  For me its easier to carry, and transition from target to target.

Also you might want to check out their black friday deal.  I just ordered this for myself, $360 for a complete upper was too good to pass up.

I would choose the hammer forged special lightweight midlength with the FN barrel.

I just got the 4150e mid M4 style kit about 2 weeks ago, (was a veteran's day gift) to my self.

1:7 twist shoots Straight and is just about heavy enough, was 511 shipped with insurance.

Chrome lined

Go for it.

My vote goes with the 20" FN upper, that combined with the VLTOR A5 stock kit is the best shooting rifle ive ever had

I can't decide either

I have the 16" SS and I have no complaints. It shoots great, has been 100% reliable, and according to Adco the longevity of the SS is way underrated. Chances are you will never shoot it out.

Between the 16" SS and 20" FN upper any difference in accuracy potential? If the difference isnt that much and as long as the SS doesnt weigh a ton I will probably go with the 16" SS due to the shorter length.
