Saying hello and posting my first M4gery purchase. I have never owned an AR of any type, but I have had the pleasure of firing many in my 14 years of Active Duty in the Air Force (still currently serving). I purchased this one at my local gun show this weekend from Bill at Zombie Defense. Bill was a great guy to deal with and gave me a great deal. Now I'm hoping to find out everything I can about this one. Here is what I know:
Lower: DPMS .223/5.56 MOD.A-15 Upper: Has the square forge mark which I found to be Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises Barrel: Only says 5.56 NATO 1x9 What else can I look for to find out what I have? The idea of this purchase was a good starting point to upgrade and eventually end up with the rifle I wanted to buy but could not afford at this time. Thanks for any insight! http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/559/imag0144v.jpg |
| It looks like a very good replica of what you were using and used to, so that is a great start. I'd have to say I agree, get lots of ammo and shoot for a while, see where it takes you. If you were used to carbines like I was after my time, then anything else seems a bit foreign to you. I am looking at some add-ons, a light and maybe a hologram optic. But I do very well with my standard setup, and use rifles for night hunting, so the AR is just a carbine to shoot for me. |

First off thanks for serving in the Air Force Thank YOU
M4 barrel, A2 flash hider, carbine gas length, A3 flat top with a detachable carry handle F marked front site base and what looks like a six position stock, Aluminum 30 round magazine. I am sure someone will pop in and make any corrections to what I have observed And thanks again for serving. |
| Thanks for the suggestions. I don't assume I "need" anything yet. I just wanted to be able to find out everything I can about this particular assembly. Just like anything else, I will ensure I get some good, quality use from it and let the rifle tell me what it needs :) |

First off, thanks for your service! It's always an honor to meet people of the military.
The firearm looks great! I'm sure it feels very familiar for you, too. Totally agree with the other guys about shooting TONS of ammo through it, as that will help gauge what it is you'd like to change. I suppose if you wanted to "upgrade" (at least cosmetically), you could switch out some parts for some updated http://store.magpul.com/ parts (stock, grip, etc). But, as mentioned above by some other guys, it's really helpful to shoot a lot and then decide what you'd like to change. Of course, if you want to upgrade the aesthetics, who's to stop you!! All 'n all, it's a great looking rifle, and I'm sure you'll have fun with it! Thanks! |

May I suggest 1 cheap upgrade that literally changed my life?
Magpul BAD lever and don't forget plenty of.... PMags Other than that, get out and shoot the thing. Save up for some optics, sign up for a carbine class, read everything you can on this website, and have fun... I started off with a very similar configuration as you and this is where I ended up.
Welcome to ARFcom - Clint |

Thanks again. Any idea how I can ID the barrel and the BCG? Wanting to find out who made them and what the quality is. Are there any markings on the bolt or BCG? A quick search of their crappy website doesn't reveal much unfortunatly.... My main thought on the company is if they have their own line of lowers then why are they selling guns with DPMS lowers? CMMG did this with their "Bargain Bin" rifles... a hodge podge of parts thrown together and sold for $599... I know several people who own them and they are good range guns but it just strikes me as odd that a manufacturer would be selling their product along side DPMS... if anything it's a DPMS lower with Zombie Defense parts that are probably subcontracted through DPMS or something, lol - Clint |
