| I was fooling around with a new parts rifle, checking systems, etc. Pulling back the CH was very rough, which I wrote off to the rifle being too dry. I don't want to soak it yet, because it's going to be shipped off in a case as a gift. I did lightly lube the BCG and the CH, and it did get a little smoother, but there still seemed to be too much resistance, even for all new parts. After some more manual cycling, I noticed the finish rubbing off the top of the endplate. Held it up against the light, and yep, the endplate sticks up slightly above the joined upper and lower receivers. Anyone else ever had this happen? I'll probably hit it with a Dremel and cold blue. BTW, the plate and castle nut were sold to me as being from Stag, not some made in China pieces. |

End plates can have some "wiggle" you may be able to loosen the castle nut and slide the end plate that couple thousanths of an inch and make it all better. Try this first. It's worked for me the only time I've ever run into the same issue. I actually noticed mine before I assembled the rifle so I don't know how much it would have rubbed but it definitely would have. |

I was a gun shop looking at a Ruger piston AR15 and the owner told me that there are specialized units who have been evaluating the piston ruger and have been doing so for over a year or more. The rivers have experienced no problems at all. I'm thinking Myth and salesmanship. Does anyone know if the military is evaluating the ruger Sr556?

I'm sure the SEALS are regularly updating the owner of the gunshop on what weapons they are evaluating and he wasn't just making shit up to sell a rifle.

I've seen some end plates that are much thicker on top, so that they impede charge handle function. One even stopped it altogether, so I grind them down, and use the opportunity to take the edge off of them, blending them to the lower. I degrease and Cerakote them afterwards.
When I order from Brownell's, I either get the thick ones, or ones that are nice and thin that work fine. |
