| I would like to turn down a barrel that is currently on my patrol rifle, way to heavy for what I am asking it to do. I have a 16" RRA bull barrel profile. I would like to turn it down to match the Daniel Defense Lightweight profile barrels. I am looking to see if anyone has the measurements of where the barrel starts to taper from the barrel extention to the muzzle. I will probably stay at .750 for the gas block section so I dont have to get another block. Thanks, Echo 02 |

http://ar15barrels.com/profiles.shtml The schematics for the gov't profile barrels, which a DD barrel is, doesn't list the measurements that the OP asked for. Also OP, don't send your barrel to him to have work done. Use ADCO. ......he asked for a LIGHTWEIGHT profile barrel, not a GOV barrel. |

Definitely buy a different barrel. Cheaper and simpler not to mention faster. The lightweight barrels are .625. Adco will know the schematic if you actually want to turn it down. This. You can either use the old barrel to start another build, or sell it to help pay for the new one. I am generally wrong, but I think JT Distributing has .625" barrels that are a true .625" even under the gas block, not .750" stepped down like lots are. |

DD LW barrels are gov't profile under the handguards where the taper is that he mentioned. OP, can you clarify? |
| I'm not sure, but I think they use the same profile as the original A1 barrel, which is ~.640" under the handguards, and ~.570 between the FSB and muzzle. FSB area is .625" as others have mentioned, but you said you want to leave that alone so you can use your current gas block. |

There's nothing wrong with the barrel I have. I am looking for specs on how far from the start of the barrel extension to where the barrel starts to taper down to .625. The barrel I currently have is .950 from the barrel extension to the gas block where it steps down to .750. I don't want to start the taper too soon and cut the camber block too short, that could get dangerous...
I have a local machinist that is top knotch. The last barrel he did for me was cut down from 14.5 to 10.5" and reprofiled to .625 between the chamber block and gas block, recrowned and 1/2"x28 threads cut for $55. Now that is a deal... Echo 02 |
