Hello to all1

First step to me getting my first build on is learning some of the short hand used to describe products and parts for  the ar15.

Neither is:
buffer tube = receiver extension
gas pipe = gas tube

OP get a TM-23 to learn the actual name of the AR parts

A general discussion post in AR discussion, awesome.

Really?

This isn't GD and we have a hard enough time keeping AR discussion clean as it is.
Why not link him to the "chart" so we can all post a IBTL.

That's one of the most common ones in AR discussions these days.

ok, so one thing you need to learn on arf.com, group discussion is ruining this place................

there that said, these guys use tons of acronyms, i think i may kinda stem from a .mil background........and that being said, there is your first one

.mil.. military

mil spec.. military specifications (lots of crap plastic manufacturers in the world will say their stuff is mil spec, very few pieces really are)

carbine, middy and rifle length gas systems refer to the location of the gas port on the barrel

gas port will be a hole drilled into the barrel that your gas block goes on

gas blocks have different set ups, there are "integrated gas blocks" where the gas block and the front sight are all the same piece, then there are also low profile, these are designed to fit underneath a rail

rail, this usually refers to the picattiny rail, also know as a 1913 rail

irons, refers to iron sights, or any version thereof

optics, well .....lol pretty much self explanatory

feel free to shoot me any questions and welcome to the forum

the most basic rule in arfcom you will run into is not a abreviation or acronym.
its "pics or it didn't happen"
you gotta post pictures.

Hell, my wife struggled with "stripped lower" ! She was just sure it had something dirty to do with female anatomy. I'm not sure how she could think like that coming from an upstanding guy like me?
