@M4-gunny, how do you like that EO, on the front like that?  Do you get any type of cowitness?  Is it solid?  I like it, and would like your feedback on it, or anybody else that may have done this as well.  Thanks, Josh

My take on the blood diamond rifle.

Best of both worlds: still get my irons and a rds for speed.

It is one of these that I cut down.

I have no idea how well it will work.

Going to the range tomorrow to zero and see if it holds.

To be honest, if the base on my bushnell was removable, I would have bought that KZ mount.

It's actually what got the ball rolling in my head to do this.

I've ordered from them once. After receiving the wrong part, I won't buy from them again.

Let's bump this back to the top.

I had this rifle painted, then I stripped it back to black for a while. Well today I got the Krylon itch and painted it again. I'm pleased with the results. I just need to add a sling and I'm thinking about a Primary Arms micro dot on the carry handle.

and the sight wheels on it.
its so modern, its a secret prototype.

Nice setup Fin. I'm looking to do the same thing with my rifle. How are you liking the TRS-25? It`s really caught my eye and seems like a great optic at a great price. Can you get a decent cheekweld with the carry handle mount? This seems like the best option for A1 and A2 guys as it sits low.

Added a VTAC sling and PA Micro Dot in the KZ HT mount (both sling and mount purchased off Amazon). Pardon the crummy phone pictures but you get an idea of the setup. You can still use your irons with this mount. The red dot is in between a cheek and chin weld. I'll have to see how I like it when I shoot.

That first carbine is beautiful, Colt_Sporter. Great job!

I would someday like to built a KISS A1 carbine with a CAR stock and M203 cut 14.5 barrel but in this climate, I'll have to wait.

I think its done besides more paint to get rid of the black.  Weighs 6lbs 11oz unloaded.

edit:  not sure I'm digging the str thou, its a great stock but its double the weight of a standard one and screws up the lines of the rifle a little. I'll probably go back to the m4 stock and loose the 6oz.

Link Posted: 2/9/2013 8:07:13 AM EDT
[#30]
Yeah back to the m4 for me, it handles a little better than the str on such a light rifle.

Thanks for the info. I ordered one off Amazon for $19.95/shipped. Plan to mount a Primary Arms MicroDot on my Colt SP-1's carry handle.

Colt A1 upper. A1 stock, PSA lower with a new kit. It used to have a PWA lower but I sold that for an obscene amount.  I've had it for pretty close to 25 years. It's probably my favorite rifle.

Looks just about like the one I am putting together, but I am going with a14.5" lightweight barrel & a pinned YHM 5C2. Oh, & RRA skinny hand guards. I don't like the feel of the fat M4 style HGs.

ETA: I may even go with a Type D stock to save a few ounces.

Lone Stars and A1 20 inchers were MADE for each other !   Actually, Colt had 20" round handies made up as early as 1965 for trials, and some were sold to other clients in limited numbers.  All this was long before the A2 program.  Some of this activity can be documented in TBR.  I knew a dude who sewrved in 'Nam by in the day that came across a couple of these handies, but thought they were installed on ARVN rifles.   The Lone Stars are not interchangable halves, but that never bothered me !

Great, thanks to you guys I have another build that I want to start and I'm not even completely done with my current rifle.

A1 Mid-lengths seem to be a popular theme in this thread and they have me really intrigued. As much as I absolutely love the look of them and the simplicity of the A1 sight over the A2, I don't like being hemmed in on the upper so much and not being able to easily change things up later on down the road. A google search pulled up a few archived threads about a detachable A1 carry handle made by CNC Gunsmithing and I was wondering if anybody here had tried them out, or knew of something similar to it other than a standard fixed rear sight.

The carry handle is practically the price of an upper once you assemble it (doesn't come with rear sight apeture) so I may just build it up as an A1 middy and then get an A4 upper when one is on sale for when I decide to change the upper. Problem is we all know how that ends up becoming it's own rifle
