So I've seen pictures of the Google Doc and the infamous chart.  My question is often I'll read about DD is the same as LMT on the chart etc.  Where are some of the brands that people talk about on the chart?  I've copied it below to show you what I've found the chart to consist of...

My advice is don't get wrapped up in "the chart"; while it's nice to look at it doesn't really say much.

Last time I looked at it there was essentiallly no differentiation between most if not all of the "reputable" brands:  DD=LMT=COLT=SPIKES=STAG=etc. (on the chart).

Unless you care which method they used to shot peened your bolt or really care whether your barrel steel is 4150 or whatever that certification is, the chart is not very useful.

FWIW, I am a mechanical engineer and I don't care about how my bolt what shot peened or what the barrel is made out of...as long as it's mil spec it is what it is...shoot it.

ETA:  I can't open your chart on my network; I am referring to "THE" chart.

Thanks for that note.  What link is "The Chart"?  I pulled my pic from the Google doc online that many reference, though strangely it misses a lot of names that get referred to being on it.

Can we have a mod that searches out people that post the "chart" and gives the person a 48hr timeout?

This "chart" crap is getting old.

The "chart" has been a point of contention for quite some time here.
Wish one of my builds was on it.

your post makes no sense... it cant be mil spec without the proper steel, mpi, hpt or shot peening. its up to you if thats important or not though

It's a compiliation of data regarding materials processes and procedures.

If its outdated, it can be easily updated by the user.  It doesn't tell you much unless you understand what all of those materials, processes, and procedures really mean.

I honestly will never understand how a compilation of data has ever managed to cause so much butt hurt.

Because people get emotionally invested in their weapons instead of seeing them as tools.

Exactly.  When I was a mechanic, I had the choice of buying cheap tools or Snap-On or Mac. Often times, the cheap tools would work out pretty good.  But,  I had plenty that would break at the most inopportune time.  I very rarely broke a Snap-On or Mac tool. People would argue with me that their Tool Shop tools were every bit as good as mine and had a lifetime warranty to boot.  Which was good, because they exchanged a lot of broken tools. I still have plenty of cheap tools, but you'll never see me getting rid of my "good" ones.

We don't allow links to m4carbine, like in that chart, as it's partially owned by G and R tactical, which was kicked off tihs site
