Other than carbon, anyone know of a lighter-than-usual flattop upper receiver? I was considering the Les Baer upper without FA or ejection port cover which is about 7 ounces. But the Daniel Defense upper receiver is also listed at 7 ounces WITH ejection port cover and FA. Since both are of equal weight which should I go with? If anyone knows of a lighter option please share.

Those are made from extrusions and are thicker than a standard upper, so they're not all that light.

This one will actually be heavier.  It's the DPMS Low-Pro which is made from a thicker extrusion rather than a forging.  If you want light and aluminum forging then use a 9mm F.T. upper with no FA or deflector that someone above shows.

Calls it forged in the ad

Cut and pasted from link

Upper receiver comes completely stripped. Forged from 7075 aluminum that has been T6 heat treated and hard coat anodized (Mil-A-8625A). This upper features a low style flat top which allows the use of a detachable carry handle or an optic device. This upper does not include a forward assist or provision for a dust cover.

This is correct. I had the DPMS upper shown in the first post, far from light. Very thick walls and well made, but not light.

does an RRA 9mm upper have M4 feed ramps milled into it? if not, will that impact reliability?

Who makes that slick side flat top in the two pictures above?

It looks light. Cool too.

That is an early Rock River 9mm upper, back then they were drilled for a gas tube.
