Guys....in a previous thread I had started someone suggested that I look in to having one of my AR's that I'm currently building custom engraved. I checked out Ident Marking and they appear to do fantastic work. I've decided to go ahead and have the work done because I think it would be a nice touch. Question is....what? Please lend me your ideas. Better yet.....SHOW ME YOUR CUSTOM WORK. Hopefully this thread will be filled with photos of custom engraving not only for myself, but for others as well who may be looking for the same thing. Thanks guys. POST ON!

That's definitely original. I like it. Where did you have the work done? So far I'm familiar with Ident Marking and Orion. Both seem to do this kind of work.

best engraving ever |

Actually no, it has nothing to do with that thread. The thread I was referring to was: Duped by YHM, which was a thread that I started. Somebody suggested that I have engraving done on my YHM upper. I will have the upper engraved with the caliber, but I wanted to do something else....something creative, possibly on the magazine well.

No he was talking about the 'Half-assipator' having to do with the PSA vs Spikes thread and yes it did. |

Hey, that looks really nice. Can I ask you a question about that? I noticed yours was engraved, probably by a laser. However, I noticed that some people have chosen to go with white lettering. I like how the white shows up, very noticeable but I'm worried that may rub off eventually with solvents/chemicals. Since you've been through this before, what are your thoughts about the two methods?

Had Ident do my company logo for an SBR. The design was done by Macman37. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=23761 On the finished rifle. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=32426 Up close. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=32425 |

Oh....got it. Hey, could you send me the link? I would like to read the thread, but when searched for it but nothing turned up.

These guys do lots of laser engraving. |
ETA: The white from laser etching will not wear away like a coating with chemicals or solvents. It may discolor slightly over time. It does actually have a depth, but it's quite shallow. Where tooled engraving is usually anywhere from .004" to .010" deep, the laser process is (generally) <.001" deep. |

I used to play this game here.
I used a CNC router for all of the work; ahh, making little chips...
My wife's rig:
My M4gery:
My Grendel:
Other future Moto build:
Other stuff I did:
...and even on my Sully stock:
I did a few family crests, a few department badges. I even saw my work in S.W.A.T. Magazine a few times. |
| Most stuff was with a 1/16" ball end mill/down flute. A lot of the one off stuff, I played around with stuff that came with the router.. |
| for those that have used ident (or orion), whats the time line and an average cost usually to get stuff engraved? I sent both an email with a design, but havent heard back from them. was just a simple design to be on the magwell and am curious as to how much i need to be saving! |

I use Orion for my SBR engravings. Two lines cost me $35 + return shipping of $16. |
