I'm not done yet, ive got a old civilian spec buffer tube that I have to modify to make this setup work. I MIGHT shorten it by a couple inches if it grows on me.

Looks like a 1919A6 stock.

It's called a S-T-O-C-K.

/stäk/
Noun: The stock or support to which the barrel of a gun is attached.

(not my definition, something I picked up from google)

Damn dude, you need to get some sleep. You're obviously not thinking clearly!

Since this is tech... care to share the thought behind this unorthodox design?

Well, pictures will come when I modify the buffer tube.

Can't run the old grinder right now.

So its kinda like the 249 shoulder rest? Neat, despite how fugly it is.  If you take it hunting you could pass out and take a nap while never removing your rifle from the firing position.

What I like about it is when ever you throw it up you get a perfect sight picture every time, its actually more comfortable than my LMT sopmods are.

Might could shorten it 2-3 inches but I'm undecided if I'm going to do that yet or not. I would like to send a 1919a4 barrel shroud off to be turned in to a free floating hand guard. SBR another lower and hide the barrel behind the booster, i could even use a 1919a6 bipod.  Possibly even do it off of one of the belt fed .22lr uppers.

It reminds me of a larger version of the battle ax.

What are its advantages over a normal (A1 or A2) fixed stock?

Well... You just made an AR that is capable of beating someone to death and not breaking.
And if it does break you can still use the stock as a club.

How heavy is that stock?
8/10/2011 9:14:41 AM EDT

I think I can see some merit to it despite how ugly it is.  I imagine it would be very stable for long range shooting since your whole shoulder will provide stability for the back end of the rifle.

The stock is a 1919A6 stock. They are very light weight and made of thin metal.

I'm really interested in how what this would feel like when firing it. I have one laying around too. I know with my 1919A6 it was just ungodly uncomfortable. But then again the 1919A6 weights around 37 pounds and is full auto.

Here's the build pictures.

The stock is alot lighter than it looks, It's sheet metal.

I sarted with a old buffer tube, nothing wrong with it except it was not mil-spec.

A little grinding and you end up with a 1919a6 stock adaptor.

Instead of butchering a collapsable stock, would it just work with an A1/A2 tube?

There you go again making people crazy

It looks really long. How much longer than an A2 stock?
8/10/2011 9:08:41 PM EDT

I cant use a A1 buffer tube because there would be nothing to hold the stock from rotating.

It's about 1.25 inches longer at the bottom corner and around 5.5 inches longer at the top. It looks big but it's not as HUGE as it looks. The only down side to it is transition from shoulder to shoulder is harder but I dont see that being a huge issue with a rifle setup for long distance shooting.

I wish you were my nextdoor neighbor. I have a neighbor that I fish with in the river in front of my house, but I would rather watch you at work...
8/11/2011 6:13:32 PM EDT

eh my neighbors hate me, I'm always running around in the middle of the night working on some kinda gun.

Both the neighbors on eitherside of me are friends, one of them feels that our yard is his personal path to talk to the other. Occasionally I'll be out side working on something and scare the hell out of him when he comes around the corner.

Dudes alittle spazzy, always acts like hes never seen a shirtless dude spray painting a gun in the middle of the night via the light of a head lamp.

Can I see a picture of that bad boy with the pug upper? You're my hero. Start your own gun business, instead of "Red Jacket Firearms", call it "Straight Jacket Firearms", since half of everyone here thinks you're nuts anyway. I say we take up a collection so tailo can have his hacksaw bronzed.

I'd love to but I cant, that lower's not registered so putting the pug on it is a no go.

You know, if you look back, like back when firearms were works of art near as much as they were tools, you'd see a lot of stocks that were curved to fit a shoulder.
Since we don't have, you know, flat shoulders...

Rock on dude.

You could always take the stock off the un-registered lower and throw it on the Pug lower.

I think it'd look cool as shit with a water cooled barrel.  Maybe something like a JP barrel nut, but use standard tubing with a welded on end cap that threads onto the muzzle, instead of the slotted tube that comes with the JP, then weld in a few valves for the water system.
