I am completely new to the AR15 as anything more than something in the movies or videogames. I've been a long time fan of Remington's 1100 series of shotguns and would like to branch out into AR's. That being said, I've found a seller with an AR with plum crazy lower and 20'' complete flat top upper that was custom made. Also comes with 4-16x40 scope and 6 mags. $700

Should I get more info as to what is in the upper and is a plum crazy lower any good? Should I just read some more and make my own? Thank you!

Spikes, BCM, PSA, etc.

Plum Crazy lower is polymer, not aluminum. There have been reports of failures. They supposedly back their lowers with a lifetime warranty, but... your call. I'll stick to anodized aluminum.

A Plum Crazy lower is one of the few polymer AR lowers out there. It also uses a polymer fire control group, something I'm not too fond of but seems to work fairly well. The complete lower retails for only $165 IIRC. For the sake of comparison, you can build an aluminum Palmetto, Spike's, or Aero for $160-170. That means that the upper needs to be high quality such as Sabre or BCM and the scope needs to be half decent and around $300 new for this to be any kind of deal. I'm going to venture a guess and say that this package is probably not the highest quality and $200 over priced if it's your basic Del-Ton upper and cheap Barska/Tasco scope. Find out what brand and model scope, what brand upper(mainly barrel and bolt), and who built the upper.

You can get amazing deals from PSA(Palmetto State Armory) right now if you don't mind building your own lower(not difficult at all) and great deals also from AIM surplus on Spike's Tactical products.Check out BCM too, though, a lot of their stuff has been out of stock lately.

There is an excellent tutorial in the Build it Yourself section on how to build a lower. I was surprised how simple it is!

Sounds too high to me.  You could get a complete upper and lower for less.

Hey thanks for the info, glad to have some experienced perspectives on this! I'll do some digging.

When you say that some companies are out of stock, is that in the EE or directly on their site?

Palmetto state is doing 16" carbine kits for $479. Not sure if they have any in stock but add a MBUS and one a PSA $79 lower and  you come in with a solid rifle for about $600. And it's not used. AND its not a polymer lower. And you still have $100 for mags.

Usually on their site. Just keep checking on them daily and stuff will come back in stock. You can find some really good deals on the EE as well.
