Once the gas enters the gas key, does it come out of the other end?

The gas enters the key, and goes out the bottom into the chamber within bolt carrier that the bolt rides in.

Gas key just accepts the gas tube, and completes the gas "pipeline" from the barrel gas port to the piston/cylinder inside the bolt carrier. Gas expands, pushing the piston and cylinder apart, which exposes the exhaust port on the side of the bolt carrier which vents the gas out the side of the bolt carrier and out the ejection port.
