M4 with FRT, more assault rifle role. Mk12 with FRT, burn out bbl limited for emergency use only. M16 with FRT, more SAW role. |

Have there ever been issues with the FSB taper pins coming loose after installing a RIS II FSB? I was watching a video from Chris Bartocci where he was saying the Mil never removes a pinned FSB. I asked him about the RIS II FSP and he said that it's a terrible design. |

Until the advent of the free floated fore end systems, the .mil never needed to remove an FSB at any maintenance level, including depot level. Hence why all the bickering about gas port erosion is a complete waste of time. No .mil document, maintenace standard, or tech manual ever called for measuring port erosion or removing gas blocks. The barrel would always wear out in other ways first (throat erosion or loss of accuracy) before port erosion really made a difference. That being said, with the introduction of free floated fore ends, the removal of the gas block was now a documented part of the process and his information is now out of date. I've seen a lot of removed and re-installed Front sight/fas blocks and have yet to see taper pins drop out of their own accord. |

Logic would point toward "if you gotta whack it good to get it seated fully in there, then it's not coming out without a good whack or seven in the opposite direction." So if you're installing the FSB and the pins don't just fall right into the hole the entire way, you're fine.

 I am not a cloner and this is definitely not a clone but you can see the inspiration. Its my KAC SR-15 Mod 0 lower I SBRed. On top is the Colt SOCOM 14.5 upper. I had a RIS3 installed. The FH is a close tine SF warcomp. Its no longer pin and weld (not sure how I feel about needing an SBR lower but whatever) |
