I'm a newb to black rifles and im hooked. But i was recently asked a question regarding 30 magazines that i don't know the answer to. What is the difference between preban and post ban 30 round mags? I googled it but the only thing i could come up with was the dates of manufacture. Please direct me to the right answer. Thanks!

This is true, date of manufacturing makes the difference.  On mags produced after the 94 ban, all high cap mags were dated and/or had the "Law Enforcement" jargon on it.  Unless you are still behind enemy lines, it is a mute point now.

Thanks. Would there be any advantage in owning one over the other?

Only if you lived in a ban state(TX definately not).  To our peeps in the NY, MA, and other ban states, I wish all of the prebans went there

I see. So me living in Tx, if I were to buy preban mags it would be depriving those living in restricted states of mags legal for them...i suppose?

Essentially yes  But in all honesty I'm not sure why you would want them, you can buy Pmags or new not old and worn out USGI mags that are cheaper and better for the most part than prebans.
