| How are they? I know there is a six to eight week wait time, are they worth the wait? How are the barrels compared to BCM barrels? Thanks guys!! |

The barrels and uppers are Daniel Defense- very good quality. Cold hammer forged (CHF). I would venture to say just as good if not slightly better than BCM barrels in the production, carbon steel, chrome lined class.
M4 barrel extensions and feedramps all around, can be customized with DD rails for less than the components would cost separate without having to be assembled. A pretty good deal if you can wait it out. ~Augee |

Six to eight weeks? There's guys who have ordered uppers back before Christmas who still haven't received their orders. I think you'll need to lower your delivery expectations a bit. Quality-wise, I can't compare apples-to-apples directly, but I've found that my 14.5" DD CFH LW middy barrel (damn that's a lot of acronyms) shoots with about the same accuracy, with the same types of ammo, at 100 yards as my 16" Standard Gov't Middy from BCM. |
| Its Daniel Defense, they actually make their own barrels. And rumor and probability has it they make BCMs as well. That said if you can wait it out Smartgunner will save you a lot of money. And they are working to shorten wait times but the choke point is Daniel Defense. At his prices, and Arfcoms member numbers I think there was a run no one was prepared for production-wise. |

DD barrels are top-notch in my book. As beltfed said, they are rumored to be the source of some BCM barrels, as well as Spike's.
I ordered an SBR upper just before the new year and am glad I did. I also got an LMT lower from Tommy and exchanged a few emails with him. He is a very nice guy IMO and I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again HOWEVER I would not order a DD upper from him if I was in any kind of rush. I was expecting to get my stamp and upper about the same time but the upper beat the stamp by months. Long wait time = $$$ saved, instant gratification = extra $$$ spent |

They're worth the wait, I dont think there's any back log for the basic non 'build your own' uppers
I'll be ordering another upper from smartgunner in a few weeks http://i.imgur.com/JqlNUl.jpg |

Its a DD upper - it'll be a good upper. I would say that wait time is optimistic. I hit 5 months yesterday for a LW middy/tan M4A1 rail, low pro block, and no muzzle device. In the end I will have saved close to $300.........but I've been waiting 5 months. I'm also watching people who ordered the same upper after I did get their orders before me.
Other than that, everything I've ordered from SG has been shipped quickly. If you're thinking about an upper, I would call him and check if it's in stock first. ETA: I wish I would've sent off my NFA paperwork at the same time - at least I'd be using that by now. |

Took exactly 4 months and 1 week to recieve mine. The quality is 100%, but even with the $200+ savings, the wait times and lack of communication was just plain out painful. As long as you go into the purchase KNOWING that you might be waiting upwards of 4 months or more.. then its still a great deal. Anybody looking for an upper that they need immediately or in the next month or so. I would highly suggest you avoid SG and look for something with better (or more accurate) availability.
I'm thinking about ordering another one, but specifically for a SBR build. That way I can start the SBR form on my lower.. and by the time my upper arrives from SG. My form1 should be back. Sounds like a great plan, to get exactly what I want at the best price. |
