May be a dumb question, but I ordered a 14.5 upper from BCM with the pinned front sight. Well I wanted a 10'' DD lite rail with troy BUIS and a battlecomp 1.5 and I used the DD low profile gas block.     I got it all together tonight and was going to have the battlecomp pinned tommorow, and realized I have this big ugly hole in my barrel from the pinned front sight.  It's very noticable since the rail doesn't cover it.  What does everyone do about this? Should I have ordered a upper without the pinned front sight?

You should have bought a stripped barrel if that was the direction you were going in with the gas block. A few companies make a lo pro block that will cover it up, but they look bad IMO. I would sell the DD lo pro block and shave the standard pinned FSB.

Use the tapered pin to fill the hole. finish the exposed surfaces of the tapered pin to match the radius of the barrel.

I'd get a Larue gas block.

I think I'm just gona order another barrel. I hate to weld a $150 comp on a barrel I'm not gona be happy with.   I think this is the barrel I'm gona go with. Another dumb question will it come ready to bolt on as far as headspacing and being drilled for the gas system just basicaly what I have without the damn front sight holes?

Why would you go with the Larue gas block?

Why would you go with the Larue gas block?

Because it will be long enough to cover both pins holes.

just a thought, and perhaps it's just me, because to me guns have been tools all my life and not works or art, but if it does not hurt the way the gun shoots, why not leave it as it is?....<><....:)

No need to spend more money or send back the barrel. You can shave down the FSB and re-pin it. First, cut off the sight tower leaving only the gas block portion, cut off the bayonet lug if there is one. This will give you a low profile and lightweight gasblock. There are tutorials on how to do this on youtube. It is easy and straight forward.

Good Luck

New Barrels on the way. I didn't want a longer rail than a 10'' on this gun and didn't want the gas block showing past the rail. So a new barrel is the answer. Plus now I have an excuse to build another upper for my spare lower, all I need is a upper reciever and a few small parts.

It's going t show about 1/4" with a 10" rail and micro gas block.

Extremely difficult if the holes already exist in the barrel.
